Back in the 1990's I used to email Corky with surfing questions. He always patiently answered my questions. Great guy.

I remember Corky surfing Cottons Pt on a big south swell in '76. He showed up wearing a sleeveless springsuit with a red t-shirt underneath. Anyone else would of been laughed off the beach. But he went out and ripped the place apart. Classic Corny.

Surfed with Corky three times: Haleiwa in '68 or early '69; chunky 8' Pupukea in abt '73; and Kaisers on July 4, 1980. I wonder if Corky remembers taking exception to a cocky teenager calling my friend a "California kook"? My friend was a regular-foot from Manhattan Beach and was trying to learn to switchfoot the shoulder-high lefts at Kaisers. Corky probly remembers that I had to submit the disrespectful young guy to a well-deserved Kaiser-Boy reprimand. Live and learn, kid. But Corky? He was ripping at every spot mentioned, including Pupukea, where he was riding a twin-fin in meaty waves.

Briefly encountered Corky one day in the 90's. He was walking out of Guitar Center (Fountain Valley I think), I was walking in. He stops, looks at me and says "Yeah, it's me". I laughed. So much ego. Funny though. PT has made a career out of talking about the old days. So sad seeing old surf legends get fat!
