In this video, you will see the saw top being ground on a horizontal shaft Surface Grinder. As Bob Bois of B & V Grinding controls the machine, it is adjusted in .0001" (one ten-thousandth of an inch) increments to provide not only a perfectly flat top, but gives the
top (which was in very bad shape before grinding) the same quality finish you would expect to find on the best saws being sold. It's impressive to watch how this was done.

I've been watching a number of videos on old Craftsman saw restorations and this series was by far the best. I'm guessing that for whatever reason it won't be completed. What a pity. I'd have loved to have seen this saw back together and cutting wood. Thanks Jerry, wherever you are.

I am a grad of Jamaica High School '67, my salvation was that I asked to be taught a skill that I could use to make a living. I took mechanical drawing. I was hooked, went to night college taking Electro-Mech Tech and actually became a Draftsman. I have had a 113.27700 since 1975 it was old when I bought it. My saw is in very good shape, I'll remove the covers and paint it. Thanks for the message for our youth.

For anyone thinking of milling their saw table top. Be aware that you can only remove a very small amount off the top surface, or your miter gauge will protrude from the table top. I loved watching the Blanchard. Brought back memories of my youth when I operated one. Awesome machine but wicked as hell if the magnet ever loses grip! Saw it happen a couple times, fortunately, not while I was operating it. Great job on the saw Jerry!

Hey everybody - Like you, I've watched this series and was eager for the rea-assembly. I did some searching on the internet, and found Jerry's company, and emailed to him. He's alive and well, but here's what he had to say: "I'm alright, but unfortunately the video wasn't. After getting the saw back together, we found serious audio issues and the video never got edited. Jerry" I thanked him for what he had posted and asked if he's be willing to post the unedited video, even with bad/no audio.

Looking forward to parts 5,6,&7. There are videos out the ying yang showing how to remove that "blessed" arbor pulley, but nothing on putting it back on. My new pulley will slide on about halfway easily then stops to the point I have to use the puller to start over. and no specs anywhere about how far on the shaft it need to be. The old pulley was wallowed out to an oval in the bore, due (My guess) to the set screw was missing. Yeah OK, I'm hooked, and my saw is down. just not 3 years and 3 months down.
@arliebox4404
@arliebox4404 5 жыл бұрын
Got it figured out. Based on all the pictures in the downloaded manual, the pulleys were on backwards causing the arbor pulley to hit the bottom of the table ans stopping the blade. After a LOT of cleaning on the woodruff key and arbor shaft, the pulley went on without too much persuasion. I aligned the shoulder? of the pulley with the end of the arbor shaft, and left the one on the motor loose, to align it using the belt, before tightening the set screws. It's about as tuned as I can get it without a PALs, but still needs a couple of small issues addressed (blade, belt, etc.).

I haven't abandoned it...just been too busy for too long. I should have time in a couple of weeks to finish up the old Sears, and hope to start a "learners series" right after that. I want to put together a series where someone can sit down with their children (or grandchildren) and have it be simple enough that the youngsters can learn how to do something with their hands (besides text at 130 words per minute on their cell phone). The school systems (for the most part) don't do that any more, and if the parents (or grandparents) don't do it, no one will. I think it should be interesting.

@inlinedubby

I never had to re-grind the slots, since there was only about 15 thousandths of an inch ground off the top. If I would have had an issue, I would have ground the miter bar thinner. Trying to re-grind the slots could cause some real issues as far as keeping them parallel or possibly making them oversize.

Funny, I just received an A-LINE-IT kit from him with a hand written note from him in it that said "Good luck with your table saw." He also called me on the phone the morning after I placed two separate orders, one for a set of pulleys, and then one for the A-LINE-IT kit to suggest a different size pulley fit for my table saw motor to make the blade spin a little faster and provide a better cut. Talk about excellent customer service. When I mentioned that I had placed a second order for the A-LINE-IT kit, he looked and saw the order and said that he would include a check for a refund of the duplicate shipping charges, even though it was my fault, since he could fit both products in the same flat rate box. A couple days later I got my A-LINE-IT kit, pulleys and check just as he promised. Excellent products, excellent customer service, excellent experience. The man is still with us. I have no idea where part 5 of the table saw video series is, maybe I should call him and ask. I'm sure he is a busy busy man.
