As a student who doesn’t have a permanent desk setup, a thin 15 inch laptop with a touch screen is a must for me. Personally I have an HP Pavilion with a 10th gen i5 and 8 GB of RAM. It’s the perfect laptop for my purposes.

And the SSDS aren’t made from diamonds, most of the companies that do this are using the same PCie tech that you’d get from a 980 Pro just that it’s soldered in. RAM makes some sense because soldered ram on laptops most of the time are used for more speed but for SSD’s? This should be damn illegal.

I'll say... a lot of it boils down to what you are doing. I had a first gen surface way back when. It was great for work tasks on the go, things like that. I didn't feel the need for dedicated graphics cards, cause I wasn't using it for really intense tasks like video editing or the like. Being smaller, it fit in a smaller bag that was easier to carry around in my daily life. The ability to attach the KB or easily disconnect it and use it like a tablet was also pretty nice.

if i like the look, maybe. it's a laptop that is compact-ish. it doesnt have to be top of the line powerful, as long as it's fast enough for on the go task and doing small works while on vacation or a trip. if i had to do more demanding task or games, there's the pc at home.

It's the form factor for me. I walk about 15k a day with a tech backpack and tools. I very much like keeping as many things as light as possible. A sub 13“ documentation notebook would be a good call.

The base model is 799$ for 8gb less ram, going to 999$ is extremely steep, these specs maxed out are worth at best 599$ but the build quality is great, so maybe for everything it can be 799$ but still way more expensive than it should be. Also ATLEAST give it 500gb..

MacBook air is also around 1000$ and is portable and way more powerful. The only thing it's missing is the touchscreen the surface has, so if there isn't a clear use case for you for a touchscreen( it could be pretty useful for students when used with a pen), I think MacBook air is the way to go, unless you don't want to go into apple's ecosystem or can't live without windows

I know that everyone here probably does not like Mac, but the M1 MacBook Air for the same price is def a better deal. Way more powerful, better build quality, better trackpad make it more worth it imo. But, if you are looking for something on the windows side, I think that this is the best option.

Bro for 600dollars i got msi thin with 12500H,512gb ssd, 8gb drr4 intel wifi card, and a intel arc a370m. I know arc is not that good but it's getting better for each driver update. Bonus it has 144hz display and a DAC that supports hi-res audio.

The main reason I wouldn’t get this laptop is that its never had backlit keys. At that price, needing to always work in an environment witb good light its bad…and even if it had backlit keys, I would only ever go for the entry level with 8gb ram 256gb. Its too small to ever want to do things that require all that RAM.
