This Christian rewrite of “Surface Pressure” takes Encanto's iconic song to a whole new level - and takes us on a journey to the cross.
The song tells of a person striving for holiness under the Old Testament law. He might look good on the outside - but under the surface, he knows his efforts aren't enough. He keeps trying and trying - but under the surface, he's exhausted. "Who can take this pressure?" he sings. The answer, of course, is Jesus.

I thought " We Must Talk About Jesus" was good, but then I heard "Grace if there was Grace." The little detail in the background at that moment is simply amazing. It shows that Louisa is no longer carrying anything, the weight was removed, by His Grace. It wasn't till July a year ago in church, that I felt myself drop the pretenses (mind you I even worked in it for quite a few years before that) and fully let Jesus come into my Heart. I stopped feeling this kind of pressure pretending to be self-righteous; when I wasn't. Like, when on earth did I stop thinking of the curse of death?! This was very good timing. I've been struggling with trying to live on my own and do the right stuff but God has been showing me that I can't do anything apart from him. I really like this song. I do feel like there are a lot of Christians that are driven crazy due to religious pressure. That’s why I grew cold. However, I realize that there’s still people today that resemble the Pharisees that Jesus scorned. They were the type to place religion above human welfare and Jesus was angry because He knew what results that was causing. As an adult, I realize that religion is a personal and emotional affair and it shouldn’t be compromised by anyone that only thinks they have my spiritual best interest at heart.

This is another great parody that helped remind me to reconsider the pressure I put on myself to do everything right. Obviously we should strive to obey God, but if we lose sight of God's grace and love we sometimes just replace one burden with another. I think this is especially timely in the week leading up to Easter as we remember Jesus' sacrifice and how it frees us from this pressure. However, I didn't like this parody as much as some of their others. I felt like the lyrics were fine, but it did not feel as intense as the original. I'm not sure, but my guess is that the music doesn't do enough to push the emotional weight this song needs especially since this song is by nature fairly repetitive. This seems like a very unique and difficult song to parody well, and though the themes are still solid it didn't leave as much of an impression on me as their other songs have.
