This is the difference between a good instructor and an amazing instructor...someone who is able to break it down in easier terrain...then build up to more complex context...nice!!

Thank you Cindy that is truly appreciated. I have spent my whole career in the outdoor always striving to do my best as an instructor to make the stages simpler and I am trying to show that in the videos. So again thank you.

Yep I have learnt so much paddling there over the last thirty years. Seen it in in so many water levels and the changes in deposition and erosion differing flood levels do. Great place. Yep TNR folk are getting stuck in.

Man, I love this channel. I bought an inflatable canoe by gumotex a few weeks ago, because I don´t have the infrastructure for a solid one and even though I´m going on the water at least once a week I´m not satisfied. It´s fine for what it is and on a river it´s quite okay, but it has not the same characteristics like a canoe has and so much energy is wasted just to compensate for it´s bad control. In your videos you are showing such an effortless control and balance and efficiency which is really inspiring. I will now invest at least in an ally folding canoe and sell the gumotex. You are a great teacher!
@RayGoodwinCanoe3 жыл бұрын
The key is having a craft you can store at home and get to the water. I known folk do some amazing journeys in gumotex/pack rafts so for the adventure they are great. So don't despair. But as you say it is hard to get the same elegance from an inflatable. What ever you paddle keep safe and have fun.
@ThisIsWideAngle3 жыл бұрын
@@RayGoodwinCanoe The Gumotex Palava is a very fine, high quality boat for what it is. And we actually did enjoy it to some degree. But sadly it wasn´t what I was striving for and it took me a couple of weeks to learn the lesson that it´s not worth to cut short the investment and take the compromise.

Thanks for another great video, Ray. Clear examples and explanations, as ever. Oh, and I'll definitely be trying the "surf-a-rope" next time I'm out! Wish I'd seen this before the surf attempt last year that led to my profile picture! 🤣. If you're not taking the odd swim, you're not pushing your skills. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it,, your honour...

Thanks again Ray. One question, when you're leaning away from the current, doesn't the boat, especially one with as much rocker as the Afon, tend to carve into the lean?
@RayGoodwinCanoe4 жыл бұрын
On a powerful wave, if you are not leaning you are swimming. So don't worry about the rocker which, if anything, is making life easier.
