Love going out there with longboarders, they're so much more chill than people at like trestles or oceanside

3:22 04:20 I've actually seen this guy on the beach. He is a really cool guy who greets even beginners who came to surf for the first time and picks up trash on the beach after surfing. No wonder he has such a fantastic surfing style.

I rode the Cruz back in the sixties, stationed in San Francisco, USN. I left a 7 foot Dave Sweet in that town after Nam never went back to get it! Was fond of the Kelp keeping the water glassy. No crowds small waves, cold water live five!

Cool old-school longboarding in fun small surf (at Pleasure Point?) including some good nose riding, especially by the Dude in the Farmer John wetsuit; time that ride beginning at 1:05!

I,m from the UK and don't live by the Sea but travel to Cornwall and Devon to surf. Longboarding means I can catch more waves, ride longer and practise these skills. Tho I,m not proficient at noseriding I do walk my board and have noserided even tho I don't stay on for long. It's fun just to walk the board to keep in trim. I also skate Longboard and want to incorporate nose riding and cross step into my skating tho slaming on concrete or Tarmac(ashfault) to American folks hurts way more than falling on a wave. I,m 46 and surf and skate simply cos it's fun. Lockdown has meant no surf trips or even swimming which I do to keep my fitness up so I,m Really missing water time. Got to get waves over winter and next spring. Stay safe and well out there.

Long boarding is very pretty:) I don't get why short boarders knock on it all the time, I've done both and they're both fun in their own ways! But long boarding motions are far prettier in my opinion, more about flow than top to bottom speed!

Bigger board = less drag (amount of your body submerged in the water) Which means its easier to catch waves. As you can see the surfers in this video barely have to paddle because there is minimal drag holding them back. And because their boards are big, the weight of the surfer is also distributed over a larger surface area and that keeps their body out out of the water. To cut a long story short. Get a bigger board.

Mathew Dos Santos Don't see many "better" comments, just different, like guavas and lilkoi, relaxed vs more intense and frantic, different stokes for different folks ( though I submit that when Mom Nature is sending a swell that small, longboarding is more enjoyable than constanty pumping a shortie.)
@jaileesurf9 жыл бұрын
Mathew Dos Santos it's not. just different. and conditions dictate what you ride. Are you gonna go shred 1-2' surf on your shortboard, get irie on the longboard or stay home?

Santa Cruz, the coldest water I've ever been in, in my life. I get outta' the car and I'm sweating; I'm a Florida surfer and this is my first time north of L.A. County. I look to the lineup and everyone is wearin' a freakin' wetsuit, but I NEVER wear an effin' wetsuit! I run up to the shore-break and stick a foot in, just to get acclimated. Instantly, my foot goes numb, and turns an icy blue?! Eff' me...WTF! I hate surfing COLD water, I never get loose; I don't want to get my body 'in' any more than I already have! At my local "Inlet" (Sebastian) that's not an issue; not even a concern.

I once barebacked it there one summer day while riding an old time finless wooden board that must have weighed sixty lbs. It didn't seem so cold, the board blasted through sections like you could never believe (couldn't turn hard or you'd spin out) and had about the most fun I've ever had there. Every surfer should try doing that; we'd all have a great deal more respect for the history of this great sport.
