Our first spring surf session with a brand new board! Decided to pick up a foamie/soft top because we felt like our progression had come to a standstill. We chose the Verve by South Bay Board Co. Join us at a new location on the Oregon Coast.

I've taught a few people to surf over the yrs and while I've never been much of an instructor one thing I've noticed is frequency helps ability exponentially. If you can commit to 3 or even 4 mornings in a row you can learn a lot and you'll be surprised at how fast you improve. Do that as frequently as you can (I know Portlands a bit of a drive, its the curse of being a surfer in the PNW).

You’re absolutely right on the frequency. We did a week long surf camp last year and made so much progress in that one week. But then going back to once in a while surfing here made it difficult to progress further. We still have a lot of fun though!

Way to improvise with the shoelace! I’ve forgotten my leash before; such a bummer when you get to the beach and realize you’re missing gear :(

Haha yeah especially because we typically have to drive nearly 2 hours to get to the beach.

@@JimmyxMelanie Same! I'm 2.5-3 hours depending on the beach. I have started leaving a spare leash, wax, GoPro accessories, etc. in my trunk.

I remember that beach very well. Right near Neahkahnie Mountain, one of the prettiest hikes on the Oregon Coast. Great POV!! Your surfing is definitely getting better.

Thank you! And yes that hike has the best view of the Oregon coast! My plan is to watch the sunset from there one day.

No sadly it does not. I thought the same thing at first. I’m not entirely sure what that is on the nose, haven’t used the board in a few months. Will need to inspect 😅

Hi Elena. If you live in Oregon and are on facebook I recommend joining the Surfing in Oregon facebook group. It's a really helpful group, especially for those new to surfing. You can also find out the local spots to surf. I am part of the group as well =)
