Today there are safer and more environmentally superior materials available to make surfboards. Epoxy resins have almost no VOCs and EPS foam scraps can be recycled easily. Polyester resins kicked with MEKP catalyst is dangerous and a known cancer producer. Pure sun cure PE resin is also significantly hazardous. Polyurethane foam breaks down quicker than EPS. Honestly, PU/PE boards do lend themselves to better looking boards; never try a resin tint with a EPS/Epoxy board. But with all things equal, an EPS/Epoxy board will last longer than a PU/PE board.

What is the reason you wouldn’t do a tint with epoxy resin? Does the tint come out uneven or splotchy? Most color work I see on EPS/epoxy is opaque, I’ve been looking for more info for my next build. Thanks!

@@GodShimo PU is a smoother foam, EPS tends to rip out and leave little craters where beads were. Unless you seal blank, those little divots turn to darker spots with tinted resin. PU boards typically have a smoother tint glass job
