Sounds like you have a lot on your plate so I hope you manage to get everything done. I love the surge fabrics, especially the tie -dye one. Brady's skort would be gorgeous 😍 I'm currently trying to finish a pair of shorts and co-ordinated top in a turquoise viscose. And then I'm going to have to take a break from sewing as I really need to tackle the garden and a friend has volunteered to come and help. Lucky me?

Yes, lucky you! I think at least. I had a friend volunteer to help me sort through stuff when I moved a few years ago and it was so much better than doing it on my own. I’m guessing you’ll be having lots of fun in your garden with them! Oooo a turquoise viscose set sounds fabulous 🤗

How do you use a jelly roll?

They’re precut to 2.5” x the width of fabric (usually 42-44” since it’s quilting cotton) so it does a lot of the cutting work for you. There are a lot of jelly roll quilt books and patterns out there. They’re fun and quick!

Hey Mary! She’s at the age where it’s a perfect mix of zero logic, zero filter, and 100% hilarity 😂. I’ve pretty much settled on making a swim suit with the Tutti Fruitti. 😬 I’m a little intimidated but people say it’s not too difficult, and sewing the activewear gave me a big confidence boost. I had a ton of fun and there’s another one on the calendar for next month! Yay!

@@ErinSews that will make a great swimsuit! Swimsuits just have a lot more steps I think but so worth it!

It’s helpful that swimsuit patterns have more sizes than just “small, medium,large” so that we can get a better fit than trying to fall into a big buckets of a size

I have to admit to fondling the jelly rolls the last (OK, the last few) times I was at the fabric store; I had noticed that they weren't the same quantity, or it would have been a LOT harder to walk away from 😆 I've also got fabric for a quilt already, with just a little cutting left to do before I can get started. The things that the athletes at the Olympic trials are wearing is really snazzy. They should be using tie dye! 😉 And matching skorts would be fabulous in the extreme! She's got a good eye 🥰

There’s something about the mauert of a jelly roll, since you can’t see much of the fabric. You know it’ll be good though, because it all coordinates. I definitely fondle jelly rolls too 😂 Oooo that’s exciting! I need to cut pieces for the standing tall quilt soon and I’m weirdly excited for lots of straight lines lol. What quilt are you making? I’ve got a cool kid for sure 😎

Hi Erin! I like the no elastic waistband for your active wear shorts. I think that style is more comfortable. I’m intrigued by your mystery collaborations 🤔🙂 The quilt a long sounds fun! I was wondering how much quilting you do anymore considering your big uptick in garment sewing. Hope your sewing social was fun! I actually said “WOW” out loud when you sprung the tooty fruity fabric on us! I was not prepared 😂 It’s very fun and I definitely understand your daughter wanting something from it 🙂 The fabrics all looked very nice and not see thru at all while you were showing them. Ah yes, the days of reasoning with (and sometimes being outsmarted by) a two year old 🤣

Hi Michelle! I’ve been *wanting* to do some quilting for the past few months but didn’t really know what I wanted to do, and then keep getting distracted by faster makes lol. I got started on the quilt along though and it’s the perfect project to get back into it. I need to quilt the Christmas quilt for my mom in the next few days and I’m finally feeling like doing it! Yay! The social was really nice, and the owner actually asked if I’d be willing to teach a Garment 101 class 😳 She can’t do it herself but said there’s a lot of interest, so I’ll be doing it at the end of August. It’s QUITE a fabric. I’ve pretty much settled on making a swimsuit from it (someone told me it’s not that hard 😉) and using whatever I have left over for a skirt for Brady and some potential color blocking in my active wear. Toddlers are too smart. I swear they’re programmed to naturally find every loophole in what we say 😂

@@ErinSews Teaching! How exciting! I will be taking a little sewing break. My son really wants me to work on some more scrapbook pages of him and I told him I would when we get home from visiting family in Chicago. I’m on his 5 year old book and he’s 15…so I’m a LITTLE behind 😬 I use the same room and desk space for both crafts so I only do one or the other at a time. I’ll still be watching tons of sewing videos, just not making anything for a couple weeks or so. Hope you guys have a great 4th of July and that Brady enjoys seeing fireworks!

It’s so sweet that he wants his scrapbook pages updated. He sounds like a really nice young man. You only have a decade or so to catch up on 😂 It’ll be a fun walk down memory lane though, and your paper crafting is so impressive so I know they’ll be beautiful pages. Brady was soooo tired by the time we got to fireworks (no nap and staying up 2 hours past bed time will do that…) but she still really liked them. I hope you guys had a good celebration too!

I love that tie dyed fabric!!! Lots of nice pieces from that haul! And quick! Still waiting on my Minerva order. It’s in the states now. lol! Have a 4-H modeling workshop tomorrow I’m helping with. Fair is coming up. Cut out the pattern for pattern emporium be mine balloon top. Hope to cut out the fabric and get it sewed up this weekend. Have a great one!

I wish I had gotten more of the tie dye! I really want to make a swim suit from it now. I really was SHOCKED at how quickly the order made it to me. It definitely wasn’t coming as far as your Minerva order (Surge is based in MO) but it was still impressively fast. I hope you’ve had some time to work on your balloon top- it’s a beautiful pattern. @@ErinSews I’ll have to remember that they are there. It’s only 3 hours away from me. We pass through there sometimes on vacation. My Minerva and Think Box are both in Topeka as of yesterday so I expect to see them Monday or Tuesday 💜. Got started on the be mine top a little while ago!

Eek! Hopefully yesterday (or today) was a very happy mail day! I’ve started to see all of the holiday sale announcements in my inbox and I’m trying to ignore them 🫣

@@ErinSews yesterday was a fabulous mail day! I received both packages and have them all washed and bolted. Finished my be mine balloon sleeve top. Had problems with that facing too, so I’ve been doing more research on facings and have to be a lot more careful apparently. I did help the facing issue by taking a pleat in the middle front taking out a total of 8cm.. It’s hand basted and now I need to sew it up and put a decorative button there that I got in my BTPD Think Pink box. I will send pictures of the packages and the blouse. I think next on my “try” list is the LN Summer Caye pants. I have so much beautiful viscose that I need to get sewn up so I can wear it!
