(46:20) i didnt understand about shunt capacitor how does it protect againt surges as surges are DC in nature.Please someone reply, am confused.

The Z(c) of a capacitor is zero {as there is no L, so L=0}... Current always try to go from least resistive path and so the surge is controlled by the capacitor shorted path to ground... Hope it helps...!
