Surgical Management of Thyroid Nodules

This video covers the workup and management of thyroid nodules. First, we make the distinction between hot/cold thyroid nodules. Then we discuss which cold nodules need further workup with an FNA biopsy based on their ultrasound features. We then talk about the Bethesda criteria for histologic classification of these lesions and the next steps for each level of the classification. We talk about surgical options for thyroid cancers, including which nodal basin is the "sentinel node of the thyroid". Finally, we run through the different types of thyroid cancer and the specific surgical treatment needed for each type. We finish by briefly reviewing some of the most important potential complications of thyroid surgery.
