Very nice bike! I picked up a used one a little over a year ago and I love it! I'm a vary large guy and it handles my weight with no problems! It came with carbon fiber forks and handle bars!

Right on! Yeah these bikes are built like tanks and they give you that same feeling don’t they? I’m worried that my other bikes just won’t see much use regardless of the weather and riding conditions 😆👍

love my moonie... it is a lot of bike but induces smiles wherever it goes... bud and lou best for real offroading but like anything depends on what you're after... i like running the BFLs at about 18psi for summer gravel roading, smooth ish single track and grass riding... leads to minimal self steer like that... can ride up pretty much anything with 2 x 10 at that pressue too still... bar snow... as you clearly have found :) enjoy!

Right on! That makes sense. I really enjoying hearing how other people ride and setup their various bikes so thank you so much! 👍

H*ll yeah! A buddy had been trying to sell me his Moonlander that he barely rode for years. I thought "how often would I actually ride the thing?". Pulled the trigger in Dec. He had made upgrades like full XT 2x10 shifting, lightweight 760 bars/stem/seatpost/seat, 11-42 cassette. I went further and put a narrow-wide Wolftooth 28 and converted to 1x, yanked the tubes out of the Lou rear tire and FBF front, put a spare set of Hayes hydraulics on it (gotta like DOT4 when it's really cold). All I can say is I wish I had done it years ago. It is SO FRICKIN' FUN! Snow singletrack, frozen streams, snowmobile trails. You name it, the Moony has it covered. To me, the Moonlander is the original and the King... especially the sparkle grey version like yours (and mine). Thanks for the video!

Oh sweet! I’m thinking about the same thing for mine. And possibly setting it up tubeless too. They are such a fun bike 👍

No idea what that is. I am, however, against e-bikes.

very nice! definitely upgrade those tires. 5psi and grippy tires, should get you through moderately deep snow!

Thanks! I’ve since installed the bud and Lou combo but haven’t gotten around to converting to tubeless yet. That’s one thing I’d still like to do 👍

A buddy of mine swears by the Surly Bud and Lou tires on his Moonlander.

Right on. That’s good to hear. I was riding in some deeper snow in the yard and the bike floats enough to keep me from post-holing, but the tires would just spin. I think some aggressive knobbies would certainly help out. 👍

Nice! I gotta get another bike. I sold my previous bike just be for my move, so it's been 3.5 years now. Bikes around here are hard to find right now.

For sure! Yeah they are really hard to find around here too. The whole pandemic thing. This summer I’d go into the bike shops and places that would usually have over 1000 bikes (legitimately) had around 30. And of course they were all super specialized bikes that few people wanted. Even used bikes disappear on local classifieds way faster than they used to. Oh well. More people getting into bike is only good for those who enjoy bikes 👍

The 2.8" tyres on my Unit float across the surface when I ride it offroad. I can't imagine what riding a bike with those things is like!
@jeremygoertz

Yeah man these things are crazy. And having a rim to match is super nice. I once tried 3” tires on my karate monkey but with the narrow(er) rims, I couldn’t take advantage of a nice low air pressure. It’s insane how smooth this thing rides 👍

@@jeremygoertz Hopefully I can get round to setting it up tubeless in the not too distant future so I can run even lower pressures. I've just bought a microSHIFT Advent X groupset to give me a bit more range. Riding a SS is fun, but I'm nudging 50 so there are times when my legs could do with a bit of help.

The frame is like that to have a smaller q factor. Your bottom bracket is not as wide as most fat bikes.

No, I havne’t done that yet. I think about it now and then. I think the next step (although might take some time to get there) would be tubeless. 👍
