My grandfather's brother, Carl Ellison had a son named Carl Grayson Ellison. He attended Furman University and was a genealogist and preacher. He searched our Ellison bloodline back to the original settler who was named John Ellison, who came to Jamestown, VA in 1622 from Lanark County Scotland. He wrote and published a book in the 1980's titled Allison Ellison Scottish Cousins, which can be found on Google. Our ancestor, who was of the 6th generation, moved from VA to SC. My grandfather was named Robert Lewis Ellison and he moved to NC in the 1920's from Williamston, SC. Williamston is in Anderson County between Anderson and Greenville. There are many, many Ellisons in that area, as they have been there since the 1700's.
@robertellison469122 күн бұрын
There are 2 postings of his book One of them is 600+ pages and is incomplete. The other one shows all 1000+ pages. My father is generation #14 and can be found on page 628 and he is #3193. His name is Bobby and I am listed as his 3rd child #4435. I was born in 1956. My grandfather was Robert Lewis, his father was Robert Jackson, his father was Greenlee, his father was Miles, etc.

@@robertellison4691 very cool, thank you for sharing! I cannot seem to break my Ellison brick wall. I have a 4th great grandfather Hogan Ellison born 1805 who shows up in McCracken County KY. He says in census records he is from North Carolina but I can't find his father. I have some leads through DNA that give me some ideas but nothing definitive. Would love to chat more about this!
@robertellison469122 күн бұрын
@@amyprice1224 Hogan Ellison isn't listed in our book, neither is Mc Cracken County Kentucky. There is a list of names and places that are listed at the end of the book. There are other Ellisons listed in KY that are related to my specific bloodlines, but not in McCracken County. There aren't many Ellisons in NC as compared to SC and VA. The Ellisons in NC came from those 2 states. Hogan probably was related to the Ellisons that were from VA that didn't move to SC. There is another line of Ellisons that settled in SC in the 1700's that came from Ireland instead of Scotland. His name was Robert Ellison also. My 6th generation ancestor that move from VA to SC was named Robert Ellison also. He and his brother named Hector moved to SC, but his other brothers and sisters remained in VA. Some of the first generations moved to MD also. Hogan was probably decended from one of those families. It can get very confusing. Best of luck to you tracing him
@robertellison469122 күн бұрын
I found a Hogan Ellison that was born in 1805 and died in Sacramento Mahlenberg KY in 1853. His father was named Akiss Ellison who was born in 1775 and died in 1839. Akiss' father was named Jesse James Ellison and his mother was named Ann Garrett. Akiss' father was Jesse James Ellison and his mother was Sarah Catherine Roark. Akiss' and Sarah were married in 1817 in VA. They had 3 sons and 1 daughter.

Christine, I wrote a book about that very topic. They were recruited by people like William Penn, who was the governor of Pennsylvania. The Germans were among Europe's best metal smiths, and they were deep plough farmers. The Scots and the Irish were fighters and herders. The Germans had large families, so their offspring joined the westward migrations down the valleys and into the interior of the continent.
