Loved watching this. One point: When you talk about Caran d'Ache watercolor pencils, it is important to stress that they have different lines of varying price and quality. Their lowest-tier line, Prismalo, is very cheap, but the colour payout is low, the colours can fade quickly, and there is no information on lightfastness for individual colors. Their mid-range line is Supracolor, which has more pigment and there are indications of lightfastness per color right on the pencil. The Museum Aquarelle line is very expensive (the one mentioned in the chat), but it has a larger core and was designed to have excellent lightfastness. The level of lightfastness for each color is indicated right on the pencil. The Museum Aquarelle line is the only line where you can look up the pigments used online. I work mostly with Supracolor (avoiding the colors with low lightfastness), but also combine them with some Museum Aquarelle, especially for certain colors.

Thanks Leston for your knowledge. I love Caran d’Ache and the way they provide such clear information about their products.

The Caran D’Ache Museum Aquarelle are unmatched but very pricey. I only have 12 museum aquarelles, but got the whole set of Albrecht Durer for Christmas. The AD are great but not as pigmented as the. MA. The Caran D’ache Supracolors are awesome. I started out with a small set of 18, they were all I had while in the hospital for a week. I used them dry and wet and they were great both ways, and I still love everything I did with them. You can’t go wrong with any of them. The Arteza are probably a better buy than the Spectrum Noir, I got 72 for $30, the same quality maybe a little better.

I find that my Caran d’ache are no more saturated than the Faber Castell Albright Durer so I stayed with FC also the Caran d’ache leaves the lines and they don’t disappear as nicely as FC. I do watercolor, colored pencils, charcoal, graphite and pastels. There are cheaper Faber Castell pencil known as the Pitt watercolor pencils which are nonprofessional and less saturated. Caran d ache likewise has their Supracolor which is below the Aquarelle. Most artists go for the nicely priced and professional Albright Durer. I even draw my watercolor painting with the wc pencils because I don’t have to erase when it is time to paint or if it hasn’t been wetted and you need to change something then just erase it.

I use mostly watercolour pencils. I bought a basic set then I have been buying single pencils by Faber-Castell/Albrecht Durer. I like thefrugalcrafter too. I subscribe to her channel, and like her ideas about drawing and painting. Edit if you're interested in learning more about color theory, and mixing colors (specifically acrylic paints), I suggest Gisele Grenier. She has lots of videos about mixing colors. I once mixed a brown according to her video which included adding yellow and green , and got a really nice chocolate brown.

Thanks for the suggestion. Color mixing is a science and it’s so fun to experiment with!

It's a-gee-in, like the Aegean Sea. I'm new to coloring so I'm experiementing. Do you have to use water with water color pencils or can they be used without?
@ColoringBliss5 жыл бұрын
The water color pencils can be used dry OR wet. That makes them so versatile. They don’t blend the same as standard colored pencils, but they do a decent job.

@@ColoringBliss Heros are little bit scratchy but medium pigmented, I guess they are ok for beginner like me. The Procolours have a wonderfull pigments but are little heavy on my arthritic hands.
