Wes Craven was a genius in the horror genre. He took all of the horror/slasher movie tropes from even his own past movies and twisted them on their heads by kind of making fun of them. BTW. The guy in the Freddie Kruger outfit is Wes Craven.

Well it was Kevin Williamson who wrote the screenplay, so it was really his idea. Wes Craven was the genius who brought those genius ideas to life!!

Those masks are bad for vision, the eyeholes are covered in black mesh, and the costumes are easy to trip on. I'd say the clumsiness is realistic. Stu was also drinking at the party plus the mortal wounds.

Three things that I love about this franchise: 1. Ghostface is a actual human person that's killing people its not like a Freddy Krueger, Jason or Michael Myers. Scream is something that can actually happen in real life and that's what makes it relatable and frightening. Making Ghostface somewhat clumsy made it as a realistic human. (Also, the robe is very easy to trip over.) I love the mystery of who done it. 2. The self awareness about horror movies and how Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson plays on it. 3. Typically in horror movies its always the killer that continues on the franchise with a whole new cast to kill off. But in Scream it's the opposite its the "final girl" who carries on the franchise who's fighting against different killers who's portraying as Ghostface. - it's interesting with Ghostface how he seems intimidating and unkillable when hiding behind the mask. But once it comes off for the revealing it's like he or she become vulnerable and then ends up getting killed. It's kind of like how people hide behind computer and phone screens they come off as aggressive and intimidating always picking a fight. But then when comes to dealing one on one in person exposed they become complete opposite and are actually weak.

"You sick fucks. You've seen one too many movies!" "Now Sid, don't you blame the movies. Movies don't create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative!" Fun Fact: Drew Barrymore was originally cast as Sidney Prescott (eventually played by Neve Campbell). But Drew insisted that if she played Casey, a victim in just the opening scene alone, then it would make the audience think anything could happen. Barrymore being given top billing and appearing on the poster was meant to mislead the audience. Bonus Fact: The party scene near the end of the film runs forty-two minutes long. It was shot over the course of twenty-one days from the time the sun set to the time it rose. After it wrapped, the crew had t-shirts made that read "I SURVIVED SCENE 118" (which was the name of the scene during shooting). The cast and crew called it "The Longest Night In Horror History" jokingly.

11:06 If I didn't _know_ better about this guy, I would take him for basically the world's biggest ingrate. His girlfriend is grieving the loss of her _mother._ Grief is not something that can be _rushed;_ least of all by an impatient, hormonally-charged _boyfriend._ If he can't find it in his heart to wait until she's actually ready, it's in his best interests to break up with her and move on. Of course, none of this actually applies, because I _do_ know better, but _still._

Fun Facts: - So when Tatum said to Dewey that the janitor is your superior its true cause the janitor at the school that was dressed as Freddy Krueger was Wes Craven who directed the Scream-Scream 4 lol. - So before Scream came out caller ID was not popular at all. The Caller I.D sales in the U.S tripled after Scream was released lol. - Yes you were correct at the beginning of being two majority dont pick up on that when 1st watching. Billy AND Stu were at Casey's and used their girlfriends as Alibis for being out. Stu was on the patio with Steve while Billy was in the front tormenting her on the phone. The question about "Which door am I at" was a trick question. Stu ran to the front door to let Billy in you can hear the front door open before she went outside through the kitchen. When her mom was hearing Casey breathing on the other end of the phone line you can hear one talking to another saying "tree" and the the phone ends. Also when Steve was tied up he was looking both directions of the house. Also, when her parents got home the front door was open. - Wes Craven lol to get his actors into character emotionally like Drew Barrymore (Casey) and Neve Campbell (Sidney) right before he start to film he would run up to them and tell them something terrifying. With Drew Wes Craven would tell her real-life stories of animal cruelty to bring out her emotions lol. - Roger L. Jackson was the voice of Ghostface for all of Scream movies. For every film the actors were never allowed to meet him before or see him during filming so that way when they were on the phone with him it would give them that real fear effect. Wes Craven always kept him hidden from the others to where they couldn't see him but he was still able to see them. He also improved a lot of his lines aswell. - Neve Campbell was originally going to say "no" to the film as she is especially afraid of horror movies. But when hearing her co-star Skeet Ulrich from The Craft (1996) was going to appear, she agreed. They did both movies back to back that same year. - They casted Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis and gave him the same kind of hair style cause of how close he looked like to young Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street who also climbed in through a bedroom window. His last name Loomis is a reference to Dr. Loomis in Halloween. - Also when he climbed through her window the first time "Fear the Reaper" was playing. He climbed through her window to distract her and turned on her stereo to cover up the background noise of Stu kidnapping her dad. If notice he was wearing the same outfit at the end. - The news lady that was harassing Sidney "how does it feel to almost being butchered" that's Linda Blair from the Exorcist. - If look really closely when Billy was "stabbed" in the bedroom you can see Stu adding the fake blood onto the knife before wiping it off. -Casey's comment about Nightmare on Elm Street about how the first was good but the rest sucked. It's because Wes Craven only did the first one and didn't direct all of the other ones lol. Wes Craven loved his horror. -Kenny actually saved Sidney in his literal final moment AFTER his throat got slashed. He pointed to the back and told her "door" so she could crawl out. - Ghostface in the bathroom was a prank on Sidney it wasn't either Billy or Stu. - Rose McGowan(Tatum) was actually able to fit through the cat door. They had to staple her shirt to the door cause she kept falling out. Also just before her head got smashed in she herself added calling out "mom" and Wes loved it and kept it in cause it gave her last moments of humanity. Rose also picked out her own outfits for her character. The jersey she wore with #10 was also a reference to Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street. - When Billy hit Stu in the head with the phone it was a accident on Skeets part. The fake blood was so sticky and ended up hitting Matthew Lillard instead of the desk and his "Oww You hit me with the phone D***" was a real reaction to it. Wes loved it aswell so he kept it lol. Matthew also improved most of his kitchen scene with his lines like with "Houston we have a problem" "the peer pressure" and the comment about his parents going to be so mad lol. - That WHOLE kitchen scene took 5 days to film because of the amount of high energy that was used as well with the fake blood (corn syrup dyed red). - Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard actually started dating while filming Scream and were together for little over 2 years. So that whole "I've always had a thing for you Sid" was true lol. He originally auditioned for Billy but the casting didn't believe that Sidney would date someone like him lol. So he ended up getting Stu and Skeet got Billy cause of his look alike to Johnny Depp. Funny thing is even though the casting thought that about Matthew they ended up dating real life anyways 😂 - When Billy got stabbed with the umbrella the 2nd time it actually hit Skeet where he had heart surgery when he was younger so that scream he let out was his real action to the pain. - Drew Barrymore was supposed to play Sidney. But she ended up changing her mind and went to Wes with a idea to have her as the open kill cause no one would expect it. Also would show if they could kill off a huge star right off the bat it would mean NO ONE was safe. It was the BIGGEST surprise shock effect for the audience cause they assumed she would be the leading character and they played into the with the publicity. -Even though Billy was at Sidneys for the attack. It was actually Stu who she fought with when he was tripping up the stairs you can hear ghostface saying "easy" "easy". The next day at the lockers he was checking his face in Tatums mirror for any bruises and when Tatum was hitting him with her sucker he says "easy" "easy. -Billy was always 1 handed with his killing if he had a knife if didn't he resorts to choking except for Tatum he used the opportunity with the garage door. He gave a signal look to Stu at the front door that Tatum was dead. Stu uses both hands when using the knife and resorts to other tactics if doesn't have knife like the both times he fought Sidney. -Stu was the one that called Dewey about the abandon car and also called Randy about the principal after the whole "I'll be right back". Billy killed the principal so they can use him as a deploy for later that night to get rest of the guests to leave so the real party can began. - Dewey was supposed to die in this one but Wes Craven and everyone just loved David Arquette and how he played his character. They all fell in love with him so at the end Wes had Dewey do the thumbs up to show the audience that he survived.

Wes Craven wasn't just a horror movie fan : He's a legend of horror movies : In the 70' and the 80' he directed some legendary horror movies like "Last House on the Left" (1972), "The Hill has Eyes (1977), "Swamp Thing" (1982), "Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984). That's why this movie is filled with easter egss and references to other horror movies and is so meta.

I love that whole scene when Randy (Jamie Kennedy) was watching Halloween by himself and telling Jamie Lee Curtis to turn around that he's behind you lol. Wes wanted to be creative with playing with their really names. He was telling himself that he Jamie needed to turn around lol. The way Wes Craven creates those little things is amazing and brilliant! - Also, I don't know if you caught on to it but the whole last 20-30mins everything that was happening around the house it was perfectly mirroring with what was happening in Halloween lol

Hi i’m a new subscriber here. Fun fact: When Drew Barrymore was initially called to be in this movie, One of her requests was that she wanted them to make her look like Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface. So they presented her with a wig, and that’s what she’s wearing in the movie. Although I would argue that Drew and her hair were already absolutely gorgeous, she was in an awkward hair growing phase at the time, and really wanted to get her image right for the scene.

A little backstory of how Scream got created. Kevin Williamson wrote the story, originally titled Scary Movie, and based the plot loosely on the 1990 case of the Gainesville Ripper. It was a string of murders in a small town... Then it was changed to "Scream" cause the Ghostface costume was a close resemble to the Scream painting. The Ghostface costume was originally going to be all white but Wes Craven said it was to much like the KKK so he did the black robe with white face. Kevin wanted to create a story that has horror but also with some comedy of making it a self aware with the horror universe. But also use a relatable story that truly happened as a base line. So many Directors wanted to be apart of it there was even a big bidding war. He chose Wes Craven cause he was the only one who truly understood the story and his vision. Kevin wrote majority of the franchise and Wes Craven directed all of the Scream movies except for the new one "Scream 2022". He died after making the 4th. The title of "Scary Movie" ended up being used for the parody movies. The 1st Scary Movie was about Scream, Scream 2, I know what you did last summer, the Blair witch project, Urban Legend, the sixth sense, The usual suspects, the Matrix, a very brief Dawson's Creek. .

By now you must know that Wes Craven was the man behind both the Scream & Nightmare franchises, so as both a hardcore Fredhead & Wes Craven super fan, I recommend both entire series, particularly the overwhelming fan favorite, Nightmare 3: The Dream Warriors. It's IMO the best in the series, & features the best, most balanced version of Freddy. This was the one that really gave me nightmares, & started my unhealthy obsession w/the NOES series. It has such inventive dreamscapes, & is often terrifying simply because of the creepy tone & hospital setting.

Scream is one of my favorite slasher movies of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes. it is credit for reinventing and revitalizing the slasher and horror genre which we're considered dead, boring, and repetitive at the time. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍💯😎👍

LMAO the reason fro the "glass houses". Is 1) outside of like 3 major cities (that ironically tourists wanna visit) the US has a crime rate as low as most of Europe. And 2) if you can afford a house like that you are usually in a gated community or have a security system. And 3) some people wanna be able to enjoy the view(the US actually has some pretty nice scenery.)

I don't think it was obvious at all at the time but almost 3 decades later these kind of twists became new cliches. If you watch Usual Suspect for the first time now you'll likely to find who is the killer while it was very innovative in its time. Back then I was really surprised of the two killers thing and even if it was obvious that Billy could be one of them I thought it was too easy especially when he got arrested. The movie tries to make you think the opposite of the obvious answer.

The home used for Casey’s (Drew Barrymore) house was for sale in the last few years and some of the real estate shots were 100% to mimic angles shot in the movies and it is for sure beautiful and in the millions. Also to answer your question about windows. White rich people in America LOVE huge windows concepts in homes. 🤣

Ah, the movie that both revived and killed the slasher genre simultaneously. Great flick..a huge sleeper hit... it certainly brought Wes Craven back in a big way (though ita not his first 'post modern' horror film.. New Nightmare and Shocker were the others). For years every slasher or slasher-like tried to copy this formula.. never quite achieving what this did.

@@ShreeNation Slashers finally petered out around 90 or 91 (really by 84, but Freddy carried the genre for 7 more years).... Scream brought back the genre, but only in the "post modern", "wink wink we know the movie rules" kinda way. I Know What You Did Last Summer and it's ilk were all following that "We're the video store generation, we've seen all these movies" style... the 'earnest', straightforward slasher movie was dead.. and even when they made a new Friday the 13th with Jason X or Freddy VS Jason, they still had that "Scream" self-aware jokey knowingness to them. btw, for my money, Friday the 13th Part 6 did the 'self aware slasher' thing first, but in a slightly different way.. and it wasn't nearly as successful as Scream and its sequels were.

Scream was to slasher movies what Tarantino was to 90s indie crime film.. both made such a big impression on the industry and seemed so fresh at the time that we had to suffer through a decade of clones and wannabes (QT's were stuff like Boondock Saints).

@@ShreeNation There are new ones occasionally... movies HATCHET and WRONG TURN were kind of a throwbacks, and the new movie X is a slasher... they come out once in a while... but I don't know if we can put the genie back in the bottle. SCREAM really did change how people saw these movies, and how studios approached them. It's a dividing line in the horror eras... Now there's "Before Scream" and "After Scream" slashers.

Yes, the killer is clumsy, because it's an everyday person in the costume. It's not some supernatural super villain like Michael, or Jason, it's a teenager in the suit. It makes it more realistic.

Congratulations! You figured out there was more than one killer just in the beginning, which most people don't guess until the ending when they watch the film the first time. You also guessed Stu was one of the killers, but Billy deceives most viewers with his fake attack. And you also figured out another thing: there is a third person helping tem, you'll find out in "Scream 3". And Stu is in love with Billy, that's one of the reasons they're partners in committing the muderers.

The Scream Franchise are some of the Best murder mystery/Slasher films ever because before the movie is over you've considered everyone is a Suspect. Definitely React to Scream 2,3,4 & 5. Scream 1,3& 4 are my favorites. Scream 2 is really good but it got leaked about Who the killer was so they had to Change it But it was Still a great Who Done it moment. Love videos on this movie explaining where the killers are how they doing this one being here while the other is over here one doing this while the other waits and dies that lol. Especially this last act even they're dialogue hints at more going on like they met in the backyard or something after he checked on gale they met in backyard he told billy she's ded and billy went back upstairs and whatever Stu was doing he was seen by randy that's why he's running up saying Stu is the killer lol. That's why billy when seeing gale he asked stu that he said she was ded and he said she looked like she did. And the beginning how billy is in the front door and Stu at back door so in final question she would have gotten it wrong cause if she picked either door she's right but also wrong lol. Or at Sidney house like I guess Stu chased her upstairs went down stairs and went around as billy jumps up into Sidney room or something lol. And billy visit to Sidney house wasn't just to see her it was so she say he was at her house also so while he's with her Stu can get her father and they can both take cafe of his car and tuck him somewhere lol. Very interesting how each movie goes back to this one and builds on the mythology lol and back story like you said there's a lot more going on not as cut and clean as other movies though some in sequels try to build onto the original or add lore in them like Halloween. The sixth one very interesting how it goes back to original even to the opening shot how the first shot is him across the street looking at his house they kind of explain that lol
