For one reason or another, we never prioritized a time to celebrate our union because I saw a wedding as a reception party to appease friends & family, the marriage license as a simple paper for the legal binding, and the ceremony as the confirmation in front of God. So what’s the point of a wedding? It seemed like an easy way to waste a lot of money.
In the first years of our marriage, I was struggling with the demons of shame and guilt that confused me before our union. I still didn’t fully grasp the perspective to see that our marriage was not just permissible, but anointed because God is good, and He forgives the worst in us.
The devil was trying to tell me that God doesn’t allow this. That our marriage was going to be unforgivable. That it was going to be a hard life going this route because we were going against God’s law.
But God is good, and He sent His Son to save us from dilemmas like these. The devil almost made me forget the reach of God’s love. Do not forget that God’s love is bigger than our biggest sins! Our marriage is a miracle, and He is worthy to be celebrated.
Just as there are no words that can contain the vastness of God, there isn’t enough words that can contain the extent of what He’s been doing in our relationship. His presence is with us. So, while the devil is working hard to minimize our wins, think small, and dream less. I know that God is challenging us to dream big, because even in the vastness of infinity, He’s still there.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
