I found this for the air bnb altercation: In general, hosts can only enter their guests' rental properties with their permission or prior notice. That being said, they may have had probable cause because you weren't your mom? I would 1 leave a bad review and 2 consider open a small claims court lawsuit on them. It is never okay to touch others belongings. And they literally had to sift through your belongings since they were unpacked. That is a complete breach of privacy no matter the circumstances. Police can't even touch personal belongings without a warrant...

The Airbnb host’s reaction was unnecessary. My husband and I stayed in an Airbnb (that was in my mom’s name) and we didn’t get there till around 10pm or so. The host’s were very accommodating and cordial with us.

Hi Tara, I’m an Airbnb host and your booking is considered a 3rd party booking and those are against Airbnb terms & conditions / rules. A lot of young people’s parents book homes and their kids stay and have huge parties and trash homes causing thousands of dollars of damage that Airbnb often won’t pay for. Or homeless people get someone to book homes and they then try to establish tenancy. The host had every right to cancel your reservation call the police and evict you for trespassing. That’s what Airbnb advises hosts to do. Obviously you are very trust worthy and you’re a very respectful guest. Once you’re 25 you’ll be able to book most homes. As hosts we can set an age limit, in some instances you have to 30 to book. We do it mainly to protect our assets which is our homes we’re renting to strangers. Hope that makes sense! I’m glad your mom was able to speak with the host and make them feel at ease. I just wanted to give you a little context as to why the hosts did what they did. ❤

It could have went in many terrible directions dealing with it the way they did, very childish too for someone who only wants to rent to 25 & older to avoid childish things. 🙄 If I was Tara, I wouldn’t have wanted to stay there after that anyways, I would’ve cancelled, reported it, left a bad review & got the money back. You just don’t touch other people’s belongings like that. They shouldn’t have even gone in the house with her stuff still in there. Again, what if it wasn’t Tara, and it was a not-so-great person who after they did what they did, claimed they did steal something expensive, even if they didn’t… And back to them being new to this…I do not think they’re going to last long. I totally understand why some people set the restrictions that they do, especially in a house that size-at a price that I’m sure not a whole lot of people under 25 could afford without having other friends(likely also under 25) BUT you also have to know that from time to time, some things may not go exactly as you would like them to and there are appropriate reactions & actions to take in those circumstances and this host’s behavior was NOTTT it! It seems like they knew off the bat that Tara’s mom booked it for her but thought maybe her mom was coming along too, waited to see if that was the case and as soon as they found out it wasn’t, waited until Tara left and snuck in..& we know the rest… & once again, just makes them look even worse, they could have just called like they did(but before showing up/removing her things), expressed their concern, & dealt with it then, rather than waiting, letting their frustration fester, & then doing all they did. I’m just so truly mind blown at how terribly they handled this situation! Tara seems so calm about it, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to handle it with that much grace, granted she’s had time to calm down, but STILL, ugh I just couldn’t imagine some stranger going through, touching all my belongings and so on.

When you have assets worth hundreds of thousands of dollars that you rent out to strangers and have them trash your place and cause thousands of dollars of damage and Airbnb pays next to nothing - get back to me. I’m speaking from experience of renting homes for almost 10 years. Tara and her beau are welcome to stay on my farm anytime and I would make an exception like her hosts did. bro i stayed at an airbnb for 25+ when i was 24 last year because i missed that in the rules and they were all up in my shit, trying to get me kicked out. i ended up getting a full refund for thousands (we had booked three months because we were moving) because they showed up unannounced to “check on us” twice and were calling almost daily interrogating us. STAY AWAY from any host with that rule lol
