Someone did this today for me. I budgeted $100 for groceries and other household necessities and as the transaction came to a close. A gentlemen who was standing in line behind me with his three small children and small amount of groceries on the Belt stepped up and asked if he could "do something crazy" he then asked me if he could pay for my groceries. He said that he wanted to do something nice for somebody and asked if he could do something nice for me. So he paid the $75 I had in groceries and household items gave me the receipt and told me Merry Christmas. I walked out of there stunned after thanking him profusely.
