They were lucky to be able to surrender to the Americans- the Russkies provided neither to their prisoners.

​​@@jasondaniel918Yes, they had. My Grandfather surrendered near Aachen to the US Forces with 4 of his mates. He always told us how impressed he was after the first day. While at the front with German Army they mostly had old, hard bread, sometimes even moldy, and thin watery soup. On day 4 or 5, he was already on a truck on his way into captivity, they even got a ice cream at a break. The western allies treated their prisoners way better than the German forces treated them!

Did that many Germans speak English back then or did more Americans speak German ? Not all of these GI's chatting with the German soldiers were ' Ritchie Boys ' , a lot of German - Americans still spoke a little ' kuche - Deutsch ' back in the 1940s .

There is no SS man to be seen in the clip. The young man with the black short jacket and skulls is a regular Tanker Sergeant. In so far you are right with your reference to Brad Pitt.
