If you put this intersection on google maps you can pinpoint the distance the pickup traveled and the time for said distance by comparing scenery. The pickup drove about 75 meters in 4 seconds corresponding to about 40 miles an hour. The road has 40 MPH signage. The pickup was not speeding. However if you look at the intersection on street view you can see the semi ran a stop sign and failed to yield to the pickup. The semi driver was 100% at fault and only he was at fault and caused this death.

There is no visible obstructions when looking west (left) on M.G. Drive while turning west (left) at NW Miami Court. Regardless of whether the guy in the pick-up was speeding, the Publix driver pulled out when the PU driver had the ROW. This wreck will cost Publix $$$. It will be settled out of court. Publix semi definitely didn't stop. He treated the stop sign like a yield sign. I believe had he stopped, it would have given him enough time to see the truck coming from the left. The speed doesn't matter, it's the fact that the Publix truck had a stop sign and pulled into the right of way of the truck.

Looks to me, buddy was trying to get past that light and kept the speed when he needed to slow down. Whichever way he lost his precious life. But it wasn't the front of the Publix truck he hit. It was the trailer, so he could have seen the middle of the truck before impact if he wasn't speeding. It's likely the truck driver was looking in the other direction towards the bus depot to make sure he was clear on that side before continuing. Trucks are like trains. It's not easy to stop that's why both have to be respected when going against a normal vehicle. 😢

I really don't think this is the truck driver's fault. This is one of those situations where anyone at that stop sign looks left, looks right and again and you perceive that either nothing is coming or what's coming is far. But the pick up driver's speed is soo fast that it covers a lot of ground and or gives a false perception to the truck driver. The pickup truck driver should not have been driving that fast in the night, the rain and through a commercial sector of town. It's a death wish. Please don't blame the truck driver even if he rolled through the stop sign.

If you have a stop sign and you pulling out results in an accident, you have some level of culpability. The standard is stop and yield to cross traffic. Don’t pull out until you *know* it’s safe. The driver in the Publix truck is 100% at fault. One, he did not make a complete stop, two, the driver in the pickup truck has the straight away right away, three, the driver in the pickup truck was by NO MEANS traveling at an excessive speed, and even IF he was going over the speed limit, it is the truck drivers responsibility to judge if he has time or not to make a safe turn into oncoming traffic, and he absolutely did NOT, I wouldn’t even have attempted that turn in my Subaru Legacy, let alone an 18 wheeler, truck driver is 100% at fault and unfortunately was responsible for the death of an innocent life that night…

The posted speed limit along that section of Miami Garden Dr is 40mph. That pickup truck was visibly exceeding that limit. At the time of the collision, 3:12am, impairment of the pickup truck driver is a possibility. From the cab of the Publix truck (or any other vehicle), it's not always easy to determine the speed of oncoming headlights, especially where excessive speed is involved. You can't always tell when someone is speeding. My condolences to the deceased driver, his family, friends, and loved ones. And empathy to the Publix driver who will have to live with this tragedy.

I hate to say this because I'm a commercial driver myself...but looks like that rig didn't make a complete stop...did a rolling stop...that's probably gonna cost him...And it looks like the pickup driver was speeding...When you have two people not doing exactly what they should be doing accidents happen. Of coarse neither thought it would happen..but that's why you always need to do the correct thing because someone else may not be doing the correct thing. Had the semi driver came to a complete stop and counted to 3 as most of us know to do...he would've still been stopped when the speeding truck came through..and if the pickup was doing the speed limit, he would've had time to avoid the semi most likely. Just unfortunate
