At 57, I am working on my HAM radio licensing, having already passed my Tech and now working on the General license. This is to be able to know what to actually do with a HAM radio, but also to challenge myself cerebrally. Studies show that those who read, learn a new language or some math or science skill as an older person, and continually work their brains live longer and better. Also, swimming will force more oxygen through your system than most other sports, according to many studies, so that’s an “in with the good, out with the bad” skill to also consider. If you sit, you die. Keep moving to the best of your abilities and if you watch TV at least watch something that will make you think a little bit. If nothing else, music will improve your life in many ways. Just don’t give up.

These are the reasons the Marine Corps has been so successful in battle. Never give up, no excuses, discipline, both self and unit. The Warrior Song-Hard Corps is a good example of the Marines. Concerning the solar generator. My reason not to buy such a thing is that I have no use for it in my normal life. What I could perhaps afford would give me 1 kWh. Now I get 1 kWh from the grid for 0,38 €/kWh. In a SHTF-situation, the only reason for such a solar generator would be to be able to recharge my electric bike. I have small solar panels to recharge the batteries for my radio and the flash lights. I would not need a solar generator for that purpose. So the priority of a solar generator is very low for me. What, on the other hand, has a very high priority for me, that is my broken washing machine because I need it to live my normal life. I at once have ordered a new one. Now I at first have to pay the washing machine before I think about other things. I hope these were reasons and not excuses.

What changed? I hope it was due to people actually testing the science. Sounds familiar. But what lead the experts to believe all electronics would be destroyed? It had to come from somewhere.

I recently was able to afford a small solar generator. I had researched a lot and found one, added it to my "cart" then for a couple weeks, worried about the amount of money I had to spend on that, even though it was a reasonable price for one of the top generators.. after that couple of weeks, I was surprised to see it went on sale for a significant amount less so that was my encouragement that I was on the right path with this purchase and put it on my card... thankfully its a debt that is quickly paid off, but I do feel more comfortable that my aging mother and I will be prepared.

My current motto is this: "I can do it, I must do it, I will do it" I say this to myself all day long. I have been tired , low energy for months. For 2 months I have had severe diarrhea . Until 3 days ago I had no diagnosis or possible treatment. Even now what started this problem is unknown. I may be on cortisone for 5 months. But I have no choice. I am down to 90lbs. But each day I try very hard to keep up with my activities . Even just going for my usual walk if difficult. If I give up I will lose all muscle. But it would feel so much easier to just sit in a chair and do nothing. Unfortunately I have plenty of friends my age and older that tell me to do just that. I'm 71 and live alone. But when younger people in the park see me struggling along using a walking stick they encourage me. I think I inspire them to keep trying too.
@pamclark6686

Absolutely love that motto! Hang in there! If you haven't, eat only organic, plant based foods. I'm sure you're aware that so much of our food is tainted. Look into caster oil, mixed with your moisturizer or coconut oil, used as a body rub on the abdomen as Dr Barbara O'Neal in Austrailia suggests. Stay away from beef, chicken and pork. Hopefully this will help with your problems. Be blessed.

I got her to walk away from him and within 6 hours I was on my way to Texas you have heard my story. And 30 minutes on the ground she was safe. Now at 69 years old I’m broken arthritis, lower back , upper back. I’m able to defend my self getting and teaching my children to do the same. Still carry daily all though I don’t carry six magazines now it one in the gun and a spare. If I go to the Bank I do Carry two spares! Yes I did abuse my body.

I was a farmer who had to deal with weather, lights out, whatever. And I canned, gardened, all the things to carry the family through hard times or just winter. Sometime later it was called prepping. Kinda funny: Anyway, I have noticed the “hosts” on three pods are now the owners of nice property that they can “teach” us on. One went from doomsday prepping to homestead, bought by his patrons. It is a racket but still a good message. Be prepared for the chicken falling from the sky yes; but just prepare for YOUR area and what is possible. I used to live in California and earthquakes were a real issue. Now I live where snow will knock out power. Preparing for even those would be the headstart for any other disaster situation. And, you gain a healthy mindset to be able to react effectively. Just my thoughts and thank you.

Tomorrow I get a CT scan to see if the ultrasound was correct. They believe the Aorta is at 4.6cm. (The bubble) You better believe I'm afraid. And there is nothing I can do about it. So I quit the martial arts entirely as well as any kind of working out. My niece is a 35 year RN, and works the ER. She called after work on evening and told me what will happen, since she saw it happen to a person. They bled from the mouth and nose and died in 2 seconds she said from drowning in their own blood. I often wondered why they didn't repair the Aorta. I've read that it's a dangerous operation and the operation fails. My cardiologists nurse, said that isn't really true. I don't know. But the way my niece said she saw it happen. Well, it's on my.mind lately. Sorry to vent here, but I'd would like.to see my 80's if ìts gods will. If anyone knows more about this bubble on my Aorta, please educate me. What I'm seeing on the internet, isn't hopeful.

So funny...I am retired military, have been to classes on top of that and was going for CCW.. so I asked my sister if she and her husband were ready to defend themselves. She said "yeah, we have a gun" I asked her if she knows how to use it. She said.."well sort of" I said have you ever shot a gun? She said no. I asked if they have ammo. she said "No" LOL so I said.. what are you going to do? throw it at an intruder? They are also in total denial of everything that is going on. I continue to read, learn, prepare. I have always been an avid learner.

I love all of your thoughts. I want to weigh in on one thing, though: I think that the correlation between improving oneself and depression is more of a chicken vs egg matter. Poor mental health takes away a fair chunk of motivation to get up and going, then the lack of improvement makes the depression stronger, and it’s a cycle that many people need professional and even medical help to overcome. Great advice and definitely worth considering for all of us. Thank you for sharing!

I was in an appliance store. I saw a guy walk in and looked at a washer, bought it. Salesman told me later. The guy is 100 yrs old. He talks to his friends and finds out what options in appliances they need. He buys them at this store. The store puts them in place, and he hooks them up. He's 100yrs old and chooses not to push appliances, but will hook up minir repairs, etc, for neighbors and friends. He charges enough for gas and time, not to earn profit, just help friends and stay productive. He's 100yrs old and walks around with no crutches.

I know a lot about farming but each location is different and I`m always working and learning what works best and how to improve. I`ve been on this lot for 2 years and I had to learn to adapt to it. My daily chore, day after day, is expanding my garden by a few more square feet and immediately planting something. I have a dead zone here that was made into a red clay & gravel driveway and parking area. To build a garden in this grass-free area I keep adding cardboard boxes filled with organic material and sandy/silty forest soil I drag to the area in a garden wagon. To activate it I add a cup of organic compost to the center with green grass clippings mixed with rotted wood. I`m often doing this with severe back and neck pain and arthritis because it actually gets worse if I do nothing. If it gets unbearable I`ll make 3/4 gallon of white lightnin. I set up a border there from small dead logs from the forest. I`m filling in this area with the boxes containing a minimum of 8 inches of soil for winter greens and tubers. Some boxes have fall potatoes in them, another cucumber crop, green beans, purslane, tomatoes, ground cherries and I`ve just planted some of my first fall carrots, green onions, broccoli, mustard, turnips, rutabagas and a lot more. I also put 4 fruit trees there and I grow food in the soil around those too especially in winter.

Cannot argue with your observations, all good points. Survivalist from experience, long before prepping became the “Nice” version of the media twisting. Once you see the horrors man can visit on his brothers = survival takes on an entire new meaning. Learn from history and the mistakes others have made.

never give up? no that is not true, sometimes things are simply not WORTH trying over and over and over again.... just like anything in a store or anything you buy, everything has a maximum price you are willing to pay for it and no more.... after a certain point it is no longer worth it. already lost to much time and effort for nothing, putting even more time and effort in to it will no longer be worth it even if it does eventually succeed, took to long cost to much, better to cut your losses and move on to something else.

@@mikekares-b8q As an old man do you have any advice for a 51 yr old mother of 5...... , 4 of my kids are school aged and one is grown (32). I am in a 18 yr relationship with an abuser. I have no relatives outside this house. I came from an orphanage as a baby and lived with an adoptive family for 12 yrs as a young girl. But have lived most of my life on my own. My childrens father is extremely aggressive, abusive, and controlling. I have worked for many years, paying on the house we're in. The house is in my name. Three years to pay it off. I am in constant chaos and misery. I don't have any brothers, uncles, cousins or a Father to go to for advice.

My neighbors are 92 years young. The husband was still driving to a job 2 1/2 hours away (5 hour round trip) ten years ago; part time, so not 5 days a week. He was still push mowing his rather large yard until a few years ago. They are active in their church, they cook every meal, love learning anything new. I’m always amazed & encouraged by them.
