If you need Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers, here ya go: amzn.to/409pCAj If you want to buy something that is prepackaged, will last 25+yrs, and is more variety, check out these ReadyWise emergency food buckets. The price is comparable to the budget for this video and there’s way more variety. However, there is less quantity. But if you want something quick and easy without having to go through the work of sourcing, purchasing, and packaging it all yourself, this is a great option. amzn.to/4hoC31a

I was prepared for the freeze we had down here in Texas except for enough fire wood. Not gonna let that happen again

Being a little, old lady in my mid 70's, I am not able to be lifting and carrying bags of food that weigh 50 to 100 pounds. But I have lots of smaller bags of rice and beans and pasta, plus oils and canned meats, canned fruits and canned veggies. It's surprising how many people don't prepare ahead of time. Good video.

I grew up with an acre garden and a pantry in the basement. I try to stock up for winter every summer, so when it's icy I can stay home.

I am old too and I cannot get out and forage or deal with hostile environments so being ready is much safer. I'm not ready to starve to death.

No oxygen absorber in sugar. It will become a hard block just like salt. Great video.
@dangerousfarmerАй бұрын
Ah. Wasn’t aware of that. I’ll keep it mind for next time. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Bean's rice and canned fish is 💯 percent protein a total amount of what you can keep you healthy

Please save yourself even more money. Buy different types of dry beans and plant some of them. I did that and they grow really fast and you can grow them on your counter, I do not even have them in sun light just natural lighting. Just a FYI. I'm being overwhelmed right now with multiple types of beans. 😊

Learned the hard way rice and beans aren’t a good nutrition source UNLESS you get an iron Dutch oven for cooking over fires and/or a large about of propane!
@dangerousfarmerАй бұрын
Definitely not my favorite nutrition source but it beats starving.

Sugar and salt won’t go bad but no oxygen absorbers in salt or sugar to avoid clumping.

Your sugar does not need oxygen absorbers. It also can be used to preserve.

Question about beans. My husband cant digest them. Is there an alternative?
@dangerousfarmerАй бұрын
A few options that I found: 1. Lentils: Lentils are easier to digest than beans for some people and offer similar nutritional benefits like protein and fiber. They also have a long shelf life when properly stored. 2. Quinoa: Quinoa is a highly nutritious grain-like seed that’s rich in protein, amino acids, and fiber. It lasts for decades in proper storage and serves as a great substitute for beans. 3. Split Peas: Though in the legume family like beans, split peas are often easier to digest and have a similar nutritional profile. They can last just as long in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. 4. Oats: Rolled oats or steel-cut oats can be an excellent source of fiber, carbohydrates, and some protein. When stored properly, oats can last 25+ years. 5. Buckwheat: Despite its name, buckwheat is not related to wheat and is gluten-free. It’s nutrient-dense and lasts for a long time in storage. 6. Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are rich in fiber, healthy fats, and protein. When kept in cool, dry conditions, they can have an impressive shelf life in mylar bags. 7. Potato Flakes: Dehydrated potato flakes are another easy-to-store option. They provide carbohydrates and can last for decades in the right conditions.

Lentils. A legume as well but different.

I think I would’ve stored more of the pasta and oats-especially in comparison to the bulk amount of the rice and beans but great video otherwise!
@dangerousfarmerАй бұрын
I would’ve liked to if I didn’t have the limitations of the budget.
@petuniafuzz9083Ай бұрын
I thought you don't use oxygen absorbers when storing sugar in mylar. 🤔
@dangerousfarmerАй бұрын
That’s correct. I learned that after I made the video. at least that’s what all the comments are saying.
