Hi Lilly. I've been following your channel for several years now and I have been practicing archery for 45 years. After watching this video I would have to say that I agree with everything you said about safety and about shooting the bow. There are many people who have been shooting a bow for a few years and try to teach archery but they still don't quite understand some things and therefor, they get some of it wrong in their videos. You don't have that problem. Also, It looks like your release is good as well. You are not flinging your hand open to release the arrow, just as you talked about. Well done.

while alot of your advice is spot on. I would add that another way to draw your bow is from the ground up. By using the push/pull method, which allows for using more of your back and stomach muscles and not just relying on your arm strength. As well as it being a safer method to draw if accidentally released the arrow goes into the ground than somewhere you would rather it didnt go. All other advice you gave is spot on. Just remember the draw I mentioned helps Archers that are not as strong to pull a heavier bow with proper technique. Thank you for this video and Happy New Year.

Love your channel, Lilly :-) For what it's worth, my suggestion would be a takedown version of a short asiatic bow rather than the bulky olympic-style recurve. You only need a thumb ring/leather protector (no need for gloves and arm bracers etc) and you can hold several arrows in your draw hand - less noticeable movement than reaching from a quiver. Also the smaller asiatic bows are lighter and easier to use in confined/stealth shooting spots. Granted, the downside is that it takes more practice with these bows than a centre-shot bows. A minor point for a survival bow, I would consider fletching some arrows with waterproof vanes rather than natural feathers (I still prefer feather though!) Keep up the great channel and good luck with your new store 😁 👍

I came back to archery after retiring from it 12 years before. I had quit it from frustration on part of how my dad treated me with it (didn’t do it the right way) and I was more interested in gun hunting anyhow. After years of taking game with a gun (which I still do), I have a greater interest in hunting and target shooting with a bow. Have also added slingshots and blowguns to the mix. Longbows are now my favorite, but of course am familiar with compounds, recurves and within the last few years have added “horse bows.” The “western draw” is my preference, but it was interesting how my Ukrainian wife and her sister who have little experience with archery instantly went to what I think is called the “Mediterranean Draw” and were accurate when target shooting. I wouldn’t mind continuing to visit that technique, but isn’t easy for me.

yes... i made the mistake of learning in the boy scouts and then when I bought my own bow the cost was so much that I just went with a higher poundage bow for hunting. I wasn't prepared for the extra weight and it was uncomfortable to use. It can also make you less accurate. For target practice use a bow you are comfortable with drawing over and over. Its like using a .22 cal rifle for practice. Its not about power its about accuracy.
@georgewashington16213 күн бұрын
I've found that you can get the benefits of drawing the bow in 45 degree up position without its risks if you draw the bow in 45 degree down position instead. Although that was with a compound bow.

Hi lily, it's really good to see you with a bow in your hands again. I bought myself a 40lb draw weight 62" recurve very similar to the one you're using in this vid. This is all your fault! 😅😂. Kidding. I been getting busy with my arrows, fletching jig and feather vanes. It's a little bit harder than I thought to find a club close to home for practicing though. Keep up with the vids, maybe a competition with your sister or partner. 🙂

You're good. I know a little bit about archery but my dad is the expert. He can make arrowheads that look much like authentic old ones. I've got a magic trick for you. Get a pure copper coin or something around the size and shape of a small coin. Sand any edges or ruff spots smooth. Use medical tape to stick the copper on top of the most painful spot of any joint or tendon. Try to wear it 24/7 . Within a week there's a very good chance the pain will be gone, usually in 2 or 3 days. Seems to help arthritis as well but detoxing mercury from your body and not getting any more has worked for me so I don't have arthritis anymore. One other thing I just started doing, which really seems to help everything, is drinking hot cocoa twice a day. I put two teaspoons of powdered organic baking cocoa in a cup of hot water and stir until dissolved. Just cocoa and hot water, I really like it. This is supposed to release lots of stem cells from your bone marrow which go around your body and repair any damaged cells. Sounds very anti-cancer to me. I'm really enjoying feeling 20 again at almost 60 . That could be the red light therapy lamp though. 😀 OMG I've turned into a health nut 😮😂
