I'd put Primitive Bear Knives and Exodus Knife and Tool on this list too. My PBKs and Exodus are the best finished knives I've ever owned and that's saying something given that I've had blades from BRK, LTWK, BHK, PKS, and several other high end brands. That Gasper 4 caught my attention though

My SURVIVE GSO 5.1 is the best finished knife i own, it is incredible. I have a FOBOS Tier 1 BC, it may be the best all around choice given the light weight.

Dude i hear so many people saying their trc has a loud sheath rattle. My apocolypse its just insanely nice and tight they must have changed the design my trc doesnt have the flared thumb ramp on the kydex mine has the rubber bumpers on it to keep the thumb comfy and the tension tight up top on the sheath.

Survive! I'm absolutely allergic to this name! I ordered and paid for a 5.1 in Magnacut in September 2022. and? Sure, I'm still waiting for the knife! Email inquiries are rarely answered. and if so, blah blah blah patience, problems, and empty promises next month. What this manufacturer allows is an absolute disgrace. takes the customers' money and uses it to finance a fantasy creation! Money back ? forget it! I'm used to waiting from custom manufacturers. usually 50% deposit and a maximum of 12 months waiting time. but what Survive allows itself to do is absolutely incredible! One thing is for sure, never survive again! even if they were the best knives in the galaxy. And no, I'm not the only knife lover this affects.

I have a gso 5. The very first pre order they did back in 2012. And honestly i love it. However it is definitely a bit rough in comparison to their new stuff. They don't make the gso 5 anymore. Now you can only get the 5.1. But for whatever reason i decided to get no choil. But I'm kind of glad i did as its pretty rare now. By the way, i didn't even know about this channel, it just popped up on my feed.

This isn’t directed at you but survive fanboys..I have only just started the vid so not sure what your take will be. Who cares if fit and finish on a knife (hard use tool) is 100% perfect? Let alone on a “survival” knife. Survive is ran by an immoral person and doesn’t deserve customer money. There are still 6+ year outstanding orders and Guy is over here making new models and ordering new steels and doing anything but deliver paid for orders. Fuck off if you come here saying you bought something factory second (all the coated blades are actually factory seconds as well which is why he coats them to hide blemishes etc) or something listed as in stock and you eventually got it…people who paid for preorders don’t want to hear it

Wow, that’s nuts. And yeah, not cool at all (if accurate). Fit and finish is just a hallmark of good craftsmanship. If the same care that goes into what can visually be inspected, the same level of care can be expected in the rest of the manufacturing. There’s nothing wrong with people wanting their tools to be well made and visually appealing. Some of the oldest cultures in manufacturing hold visual elements to be an important component of the process and product. It speaks of pride, quality, and good craftsmanship. But let’s be real, most people buying these knives rarely (if ever) use them, certainly not how you or I might. I’m tough on my equipment and only baby things with sentimental value (cost be damned).

@jackjohnson291 I cant spend a bunch of money on something that I'm not going to use. It just doesnt compute with my brain. If you buy a knife its meant to be used. Its a tool. I mean dont get me wrong. I'm sure there are knives that are more art than knife but i couldn't justify something like that. Right I'm edcing a Crk tanto inkosi in my front breast pocket. A fehrman shortstop neck knife and busse team gemini light brigade. However i just got the wtg dregoth recently so ive been messing around with it as well.

@@jackjohnson291 oh it’s accurate. There is a thread on bladeforums that has over 5,000 replies talking about survives business practices and most people are convinced they are cons or just terrible, lying and immoral people at best. Also you can see on SURVIVE’s own site that there are orders from 2016 and onwards that are unfulfilled while they recycle the same old excuse year after year

I really like Survive Knives, not only for their fit and finish, but because they are really good knives (I own 3), purchased prior to Guy moving to Idaho. Bought a "grayl" GSO 5.1 in MagnaCut in late August/early September of 2022 and like MANY got caught in the delamination "issue". It has been almost 18 months and I do wish that Guy and his team would concentrate on fulfilling those backlogged orders ASAP, then they can produce the other models. But, I know that when I finally get it, the knife will fulfill my needs. 😊

@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors Guy goes into detail regarding the bad heat-treating, and was very honest which is another reason why I support him. You will like the GSO 3.5, I gave one to my brother and that is his EDC fixed blade knife. Guy has new sheets of MagnaCut steel, I just wish that he would fulfill the orders. He also received sheets of Bohler K890 and I am very impressed with what I saw.

@Stoney_AKA_James transparency is a HUGE deal so my hat is absolutely off to him for that. However knowing that there are people waiting like 6+ years on knives and the way some of them would seem to be treated seems... Sub par. Maybe Guy has just been put into a REALLY hard spot. I can see that happening, but still- how's its handled is huge.

@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors Long delay, like ordering a new Randall Made Knife? 😉
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors 8 ай бұрын
@Stoney_AKA_James long delays are acceptable when the delays are advertised and if the delay goes beyond what is advertised then I think it requires transparency and updates. I don't think any of the multi year Survive! orders that were placed would have been placed if they knew the wait was multi year- which is why people are mad. Heck people are so mad that I have gotten messages about it asking why I would promote the brand- Which I am not. I am neither promoting nor attacking, I just want to share my experience. Bbuutttt I mean it is what it is! Survive! Is still afloat and I feel like that is because the quality is up there, and I say that because I have personally had this one in my hand.

I totally agree on squared up edge or rounded all the way. The first knife I remember working with that had a fully rounded spine was a Vox/Giant Mouse. It’s a pleasure to dress game with and edc tasks. However, for a primary carry woods/survival knife, I prefer a sharp edge for processing tinder, striking a rod, etc.. I’m also one of the ones who can’t stand a tang proud of the scales. It just reminds me of the early days of custom full tang knives, where a protruding tang usually spoke poorly of the craftsmanship. If it’s well rounded, I can appreciate it, but it’s an old prejudice I just can’t shake. It’s weird how many here in the video are like that. Must be a new trend that I really haven’t noticed.

@@jackjohnson291it’s probably easier to machine. Getting the scales and the knife blank to line up perfectly is probably a lot harder than making the scales smaller and avoiding the problem altogether.

@@john_m3619 Most folks who go for a seamless installation just shape the scales on a wheel with them installed. They’ll turn down some of the tang while doing so, which just means burning more wheels. Aside from steel, abrasives are probably the greatest expense for knife makers. To do an exposed tang that isn’t flush probably used less abrasives, but I don’t imagine it’s easier, as you’re having to still make the gap proportional and even. I’d argue that’s probably more difficult to pull off.
