Huge respect to the Indian army and people - the way they and the volunteers kept that road open was an example to us all. It is a can do attitude that I have encountered time and again in India. We saw a great slogan at an army base near Mirik, West Bengal - it went something like "Only Best of the Friends and Worst of the Enemies Visit Us".

They used to hitchhike on army trucks to the air base even locals use Army truck to get lift from one place to another .Also Army Run hospitals schools etc. My 4 friends serving in Army and Air Force also did their term in Leh.

Indian Army's motto is best shoved down the Indian leadership's throat. All politicians are selfish but the Indian ones take the crown. They let all these brave men and women die due to poor maintenance of their equipment, delayed procurement, poor food and clothing, inhospitable living conditions...more Indian soldiers die in peace time than during war. Nearly every month a plane crashes due to poor mechanical condition and dodgy maintenance. These heroes are the ones that stand between terrorists, villains like China and Pakistan and decent Indians/foreigners. They are so poorly recognised and yet they have to be the bravest men and women to serve their country for pittance and with courage because they know their leaders will care very little for their lives other than rhetorics and politicking. Salute to every men and women of the Indian armed forces... you guys Rock (besides Karl of course). Jai Hind.

Not just politicians , even the upper brasses in Indian Army give a shit to the average infantry . The Phulwama 'terror' attack is an example where the 78 truck (ARMY !!!! )convoy could not successfully deflect a suicide bomber , why ? Because they short circuited safety protocols and do not care much about their footsoldiers. Till the 90's Indian Infantry in Kashmir did not even have essentials like snowmobiles. India exports automotive parts all over the world and still does not manufacture good snow terrain vehicles for such environments in its own backyard.

That was BRILLIANT... this vlog just shows how tough & unpredictable journeying in the Himalayas can be but also how incredible that exhilaration is when an obstacle is completed... and #KUDOS to the army for clearing the path constantly for people to move... and yes you are right.. the farmer would get compensated by the local District Magistrate for the damages.
