Been following you for a year now and i just have to say i absolutely love the content Ben, you are such a big inspiration for me. Ive always loved running and during my teenage i was relatively competitive. Due to alot of reasons i gained record heavy weight for me at 130kgs 3 years ago and today im -40kg weighing at 90kg and now im aiming for my first marathon ever in Stockholm 31th May. I just wanna say a huge thanks to all the content and i wish you the best for your challenges ahead and im sure you will get that marathon pb soon enough. Keep it up ben, much love and respect!

After my Marathon last October I took 3 months of easy and moderate runs everything well under LT1. Today I had my first LT1 session since the October Marathon block. 14 mins + 12 mins with 4 mins recovery jog. I had no idea what my pace would be. Unbelievably my LT1 pace is 20 seconds faster than what is was back in October. It seems too good to be true I want to repeat it to really believe it 😂😂
@BenIsRunning8 күн бұрын
I wouldn't be too surprised, just your ability at higher intensities has likely dropped a little. Sounds like you've certainly go some good base volume to build off though :)
@IssieAndLife5 күн бұрын
You may find it cool to check out Goran Winblad’s recent video on how his Vo2 max testing went after dropping from 14 hours of training per week to 5 hours! He also discussed the impact of easy base building on one of the athletes he coaches.

Nice one Ben - are these kenyan running camp things open to joe public? Do you have any recommendations on that? Looks like a great fitness retreat, I'm sure you're loving being back out there again.
@BenIsRunning8 күн бұрын
Yes any one of any ability! I came out initially with 'running trips' who offer a two week camp called 'the kenya experience'! That was a great way to learn the way of the locals...now i just organise everything myself :)

Thank you so much Ben for sharing your phases during marathon training. I like to do Threshold training but didn’t really know how to apply it to the marathon until now. Do you have any other resources on applying threshold training to the marathon?
@BenIsRunning8 күн бұрын
Thanks hector! Only from my experience I'm afraid. I personally find it to be the most effective method of base building for endurance athletes and have seen this a common thread across some of the best coaches

Why do you think all the elite Kenyans train on the dusty-looking tracks when there's that lovely rubber one you did your LT2 session on? Great vid as always mate.
@BenIsRunning9 күн бұрын
Unfortunately the track is privately owned so its a gate keeping problem. Most local athletes, if they arn't with a agent/brand have very little in the form of funds
@doing_hard_things9 күн бұрын
@@BenIsRunning Ah - that's interesting, thanks. You'd have thought the elites in e.g. Canova's group would be able to attract enough sponsorships/partnerships to use the good tracks. Shows how little money there is in the sport still.

Nice video again Ben. I think labeling LT1 as threshold is incorrect or at least misleading, since ‘threshold’ has always been associated with the anaerobic threshold, not with LT1. So it might be a double day, it is not a double threshold day. Good luck with the race !
@BenIsRunning8 күн бұрын
I'd have to disagree. Its very common for double threshold days, at least following a Norwegian model, to feature a longer rep LT1 session in the morning, followed by a shorter rep LT2 session in the evening. Its more a case of understanding that 'threshold' is defined differently even across academia which is the source of confusion :)
@gengar6788 күн бұрын
@ the training method is correct, the terminology is not. In sports its commonly accepted that threshold refers to LT2, not 1. Anyway, no need to agree
@BenIsRunning8 күн бұрын
@ regarding my video as 'incorrect or at least misleading' is just not the case, simply because I don't follow your definition of threshold? I don't mind disagreeing either but surely it's just a case of understanding from a lactate stand point, there a two thresholds in an individual athletes physiology?
@gengar6788 күн бұрын
@ true. I did not try to say that you on purpose put misleading info or so, its definitely not critique towards you. My only point is that in training philosophy threshold training has always been associated to LT2. No atlete that has threshold training in his schedule thinks LT1 then. If you disagree then we just disagree no?
