During military duty in Orlando Florida I was just coming home from the doctor finding out I was going to have a child i remember saying if it's a girl I'd give her this name and if it's a boy I'm going to call him Andrew Michael not knowing about hurricanes yet being from Michigan. That's day i remember seeing a massive cloud coming in and they named the hurricane Andrew i said message received God. Thank God I was graced with a daughter and a son both like freight trains. Daughter runs a military operation and son is at Space Force. ALL glory to God always! Thank you God for the opportunity to raise them into great leaders with the father we had the opportunity to grow. Space Force you're going to need to be on your toes with him. Raised them to be incorruptible and obedient to the ten commandments. I apologize for the tangent this video triggered a good memory out of a chaotic situation. Order out of chaos.

How come no one talks about installing fortified shutters over your windows and their patio doors ? Such a simple solution .

Why people don't build concrete houses over there ? Here, in Kerala, India, we build only concrete houses, with concrete roofs ! No one builds a wooden house here anymore. Concrete houses may be hot in summer but they survive our heavy monsoon.

every other country builds in concrete, except in the US, it's the cost, lumber wood is cheap and available.

@@thrashingmetal compressed laminated lumber could be a good alternative. Strong as concrete but half the cost.

They actually build a lot of concrete block houses in Florida, but yeah it all comes down to wood building being cheaper and most builders in the USA know this trade best.

That very nice home and done the right way... The problem the home people went a cheap labor and cheap home.... Look at northern Virginia area big million dollars homes that are nothing but junk.. People also don't think about lightning and fire protection.... I had a very good friend of mine had a house build out of percast and very thing was done right but the bad thing the people who build the home had to come from out of state because the local builders and local individuals didn't know how to design a home like that.... The problem is finding engineer and individuals know what their doing....

Well, nowadays another problem is finding anyone to even do the work, especially at a reasonable price. I guarantee those guys would have a very hard time finding anyone to do the work, and if they did it would be at least triple what they paid back in 2017 or 2018 due to inflation and lack of competent builders. I had some moderate damage from a hurricane in 2022 and between hold ups with my insurance company and finding anyone reputable to do the job, it took about 15 months to get repairs done that only took a few days.

Unfortunately anyone rebuilding a single story house on a slab is throwing away money. The next storm surge will just knock it down and drag it away again. From now on , the first floor needs to be designed as the sacrifice zone. Won’t be long anyway before the insurance companies require it for coverage, if they’ll cover it at all.

I'm in the east central Florida near the coast and it's already all but impossible to get insured if you're within a mile or so of the ocean. Only option for most is the state run Citizens insurance for homeowner's insurance. I went without insurance on my home on the beachside for about 15 years before selling in 2022, wanting to move inland. Best move I ever made. Within months of moving Daytona Beach got hammered by a hurricane and the home I'd recently sold was all but destroyed by wind and flooding. My new home is far enough inland that it escaped with only very minimum damage and I have insurance to cover it. Most of the people I know still living along the coast have no insurance at all and severe erosion to their property, including pools literally falling into the beach.

Well, that's the paradox, isn't it? Ocean front in Florida and the Caribbean is some of the most breathtaking places you can be. As a lifelong Floridian, it was part of the attraction for me. But that's the risk - you pay for the beautiful scenery with the chance or getting annihilated by the next hurricane. A few years ago I could no longer get homeowner's insurance on the beachside, sold my home, and moved inland several miles. Best move I ever made as a hurricane clobbered my city, wiping away my old home. My new home had some damage, but was fairly minor. Probably only going to get worse with the warming temperatures and rising ocean.

Has anyone ever thought of asking the storm gods for protection from storms and guide the hurricane rather than just accept the hit? There's this dude named God can protect you if you ask for protection so humans can tend the planet and nature rather than rape the planet of resources without giving anything back. When that happens the karmic wheel must balance the outcome.
