When coming from the US, make sure you take bigger bills (50’s and 100’s) and ask the banker teller for the most recent prints!! You’ll get a much better exchange rate when you go to the forex bureau. Use the smaller bills for traveling purposes.

For yellow fever vaccine/shot, you can go to KCCA offices next to parliament or Norvick; a medical center on Bombo road.

I got malaria last year in Jinja, I was on Doxy but a couple weeks prior I had had food poisoning and couldn't keep it down, and I got bitten and contracted it :/ luckily Uganda has like the best malaria treatment in the world, but really trying to avoid it this time as I was so sick and it still impacts me to this day :/. I love your channel it's so helpful and interesting!

I loved my time in Uganda , I never got sick and the people were just so friendly . I took Malarone Tablets no side effects either . If people our going out into the Nature Reserves then maybe consider other vaccinations like Rabies and Hep A .

Well, apart from the visa part (some countries like Nigeria have the dual citizenship system so no need for visa if you are Nigerian), definitely tips that can be used when visiting some countries in Africa. Thanks for sharing.

Nice vid. Did see people getting checked for yellow fever jab. Think mtm(?) was good for kampala but airtel can be better if you are going west (fort portal). Spot on re the weekly tablet, get what you pay for. You can get medicine there but I think there has been issues with fake tablets. Thought you might have spent more time on the dust lol. Re. the lighting- take an LED head touch, very cheap here and a super present for someone as you leave. Using your phone is a risk cos you cannot rely on electricity to charge up- I took an external battery which was very handy for when the electricity was off. Uganda is a fantastic place with great people and I hope this video inspires people to go.
@TabithaLaker
@TabithaLaker 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Thanks for the tip on suitable phone networks. I think fake tablets are a possibility but Malaria is such a common thing in Uganda I think the tablets are mostly genuine. I will look into getting a LED torch, probably the better option for theft prevention too. It's good to go prepared :) Thanks for sharing :)

Hello,Tabitha. I appreciate the tips. How much us dollars should I bring to Kampala for 3 Weeks. I would like too explore the city and markets. I would also like to check out the night life. I know too be careful and not leave my drink unattended .Also,I'm a 26 year old American white male traveling alone Is there areas of Kampala that aren't safe? I also have read about walking alone at night .
@mercy871

detric251 id say around 600. That’s 2 million Ugandan shillings should be enough
@mercy871
@mercy871 4 жыл бұрын
detric251 about safety it’s a grey area considering you’re white. Prone to being coned it’s sooo lovely however I need to ask around before u go and be vigilant. A must for u should be the beach it’s unbeatable experience
@TabithaLaker
@TabithaLaker 4 жыл бұрын
sorry for this late reply but @Mercy is about right. 600 usd is fine. If you happen to need more you can always go to an atm but of course they charge. I wouldn't walk alone at night at all especially as a white person. Just avoid it. Nightlife is fine but try your best to have company if possible. Not sure if you have already gone but I hope you had/have a great time.

You need to buy a visa at the airport. It costs £30 cash. That particular visa lasts a maximum of 3 months. Then you need to leave the country and re-enter, if you want to stay longer.

Tabitha Laker Some countries don't need a visa to Uganda. For those who do, you actually do not need to leave the country. You just apply for an extension at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the same place Ugandans get their passports from.
