Breakthroughs are indeed locked to each seed, it's just the order they're revealed that's randomized each playthrough

One sort of exception. About sol 3 you generally get a positive event. Some of those events give breakthroughs (the no cost/maintenance power lines and pipes ones for instance). I had to reload after getting that, got something crappy, and reloaded 3 more times to get the event back.

few mistakes: 1. sensor towers has local boost area (and local boost is huge), so if you have ability to build them far apart you should use it. --2. bigger dome (proper small dome) is much better than two smaller ones.-- edited: unless there is specific bonus for micro dome which is the case -- sorry for my mistake... 2.1. if you forced to build several domes then one (with worse comfort) should be used for children and seniors. 3. smart home gives building for seniors, and you already has building for children - nursery, they more compact per human, so you can use dome space for something else, amphitheater gives bonus to comfort(indirectly), so by not building it you losing some births. 4. underground now has more passages and there also work for explorer, but probably you should have second explorer (instead of wasting money on research) sent there, may be only way to win it is to lose one goal(human on mars on the timer) and invest in more long time science. bug for not having disaster at all is pretty common.

The micro dome he has built has double comfort boost bonuses. So there is no issue for births there. Everything you mentioned are great tips for a normal playthrough. This isn't a normal playthrough. He had to cut corners to make sure he completed the achievement to get people down here by sol 15.

Good set of rules. I tried it on a flat map without this nice double vistas and got cold snap on day 21, on day 23 colony was devastated by meteor shower.

NO DUST DEVILS or COLD SPELLS!!!! You need to restart a new game with NO mods at all. Save the game, then reactivate the mods. Trust me it works. This map location in particular is prone to this bug. THis is easier than no max settings

@@jamesdinius7769 No full max dust devils, no cold waves and no dust storms. the new update has fixed this glitch now. There were always a few dust devils just not max. On day 8ish you should get a dust storm, this didn't happen.

Large waste rock dumping sites can stop dust devils. Just put one underneath one and watch it disappear. you can also set up a protective boundary round you colony or anywhere else that needs protecting. ;)

Any mod that has a script breaks the disasters. You will get only a meteor storm around sol 9 as you did. If you want disasters, remove any mod that needs a script to function and restart the game :)

You need to read the wiki for Sensor Towers. It has important and non-apparent information that explains why you're scanning so slow.

You can choose the path of your dome to dome tubes if you click on the point you want them to turn. Then you can come in at the angle that you need to reach the cell you wanted. You can shift click the flatten tool to get more area

Here's the thing. Breakthroughs are hard coded to the map SEED. This location will always have the same breakthroughs (unless an update changes it which does happen).

You should restart. The point on the max dif series are the desasters, 3 modifiers and the location are only to amplify it, without it, it's only a normal run

On the Subject of Natural Disasters: I believe that you need to reload your game for the optional disasters rating to take affect; I had a similar issue in a new game with maximum Cold Waves (CW*). First hour of gameplay saw Zero CW, but after one reload, I must have had at least three in the first 40+ minutes, thereafter. On the Subject of Restarting: You are the Content Creator, so it is your choice; that being said, since you asked us to give our opinion on the matter, if your third Breakthrough Tech is another "Dud", I would advise a restart. A restart at this stage of the series certainly would not be a bother, to me.

you made 4 sensors and place them on top of each other... you do know that the sensor tower increase scanning my alot in the area around it so if you spread them out you scan much faster, and with no maintenance you can spread them out alot and get faster scanning ;)

I don't understand why you would have to restart if you didn't get the breakthroughs you want. Isn't one of the purposes of having randomized breakthroughs is to adapt and overcome challenges with the hand you were dealt? If they were absolutely needed, I think the developers would have unlocked all breakthroughs from the beginning.

There used to be a breakthrough mod that mitigated that somewhat. It allowed you a choice of one out of three each time a breakthrough occurred.

You do know that when you are trying to flatten out an area, you can hold the CTRL or SHIFT button and then press the mouse button and "paint" a swathe of area you are attempting to flatten.

Yeah, breakthroughs are set in stone per map outside of a few rules and exceptions. There are websites out there you can use to find maps that have specific breakthroughs, max difficulty, certain amounts of resources, etc. You can enter in paramaters like 1 bar for each resource which also has 1-2 specific breakthroughs on it and then sort by difficulty, and even see the terrain layouts for the map. very useful if you want a really hard challenge map that has special breakthroughs.

Not sure if you know... but the way you were placing down those 'flatten' regions, may be you didn't know... but if you hold Shift when placing the area, you can "draw" an area... instead of having two separate 'flatten' zones.

His game is bugged, a lot of this was patched in the December update. I kind of wish he started the series after or on the update. It added (not as hard, but hard) two new commanders and a lot of modifications and bug fixes. One of note are the changes to Fungi Farming.

They do scan faster around them, but even if you get the tech to make them to not need manteinance, you still spend/invest 0.8 electronics per tower. You need to send a commander and a transporter+1 drone to the area.

- Re. breakthroughs - of course you can "win" without the game-altering ones showing up, but it requires some very tight management early on - "I have nothing to do with this rocket at the moment" he says, with $1.1Bn in the bank but only 4 electronics left and no means of producing more xD - I don't think it's your mods that bugged disasters out, as I've had that bug with a completely different set from yours - this may be the actual reason you should restart a game - Up to you whether you want to try a purist max difficulty playthrough (with no rival colonies); if you do, you're really going to have to tighten your play - If you're feeling masochist, boot up "Zombie Research" and get that 400% research speed penalty, which makes the tech game one that requires a good deal of thought and some knowledge of the tree - DON'T load up ChoGGI's permanent disasters, even if you are a masochist xD

No offense, but that's not Max Difficulty. You clearly don't have any disasters. I've just tried something pretty similar: a different map with two vistas, last ark, long earth-mars distance, and all disasters cranked to max, etc. for a 700 difficulty. I've got a ton of dust storms and cold waves from the very beginning. Meaning that a) I've had to have way more power/water/air stored, and b) morale took a huge hit from the disasters. It was a difficult challenge even to survive in the short run, but these two also caused a way lower birth rate that was not enough to replenish the aging population and game over.

yeah, without disasters this game is going to be rudimentary and easy. This is definitely not a max difficulty play through, despite you attempting to set it up to be one. Just start it over until it spawns with the standard cold spots on the map.

yes you can, but it is not always worth it in the early game if the shafts are also far away and you don't have much money to buy more RC commanders and explorers, which is what is happening in his case

So uhh.... Wasn't the introduction of the amphitheatre something that was really good early game? Kinda baffled he hasn't built one yet... If I remember right (I probably don't though) it's essentially a budget art shop, no? Also I internally scream every time he refuses to go underground with the rover xD I mean I don't have the dlc (yet) but still, I imagine it's worth it to just send one down and buy another right? One underground, one above? Sure it's money but I imagine there's anomalies and stuff down there

the problem with going down with a rover is you don't have the resources down there to build lights or supports, so you can't explore or stabilize any decent amount of space. You also need iirc another RC thing to clear out the constant rock blockades, which you can't bring down without an elevator yet. So you're basically gambling an explorer on being able to find an anomaly right away, which likely isn't the case.

It is possible to play on maximum difficulty with no map knowledge and no “good” breakthroughs on maximum difficulty and bring your colony to success. Pravus is not employing all the strategies to get you there, and that is why Pravus thinks “good” breakthroughs are essential. Get gud
