It's really encouraging to see other PhD moms in the same situation, i love the honesty in all the strugles you faced makes it more realistic and helps us deal with problems. I'm from Iraq, have two kids and accepted in Biomedical/UK in Jan. Which was my dream for over 4 years now. You really should do more vlogs (morning routine/studying at Univ.) . Thanks again and all the best in your study..hang in there we are all in the same boat.. New subscriber ♥

Thank you for sharing! I'll be writing my thesis next semester for my Masters, due in March and entering my PhD in the Fall of 2021. Your videos make me feel a whole lot better. I've been looking high and low for women with newborns in PhD programs!

I’m finishing my masters next year and I am planning to go for my PHD. Any advices regarding the GRE? Thank You again and you go momma! We can do it.

Hi Natália! Thank you for the support! The GRE is interesting, as many departments are starting to shy away from it because similar to the SATs and other standardized tests, it really only tells you how well you take that specific test. But to me, the GRE is an SAT that requires more endurance. So practice sitting for hours at a time answering word problems (there are practice books and apps you can download). For me I had apps that I used that had daily questions and activities to get you thinking in the way the GRE is designed. Also, look up ways to structure the essay questions, there are some good videos that address this. But the biggest advise I would have doesn’t have to do with the GRE. My undergraduate advisor talked with me about how there is basically a tripod for applicants. The GRE is only one leg, while research/extracurriculars, and grades are the others. So while a good score is preferred, an average score alone is not going to take you out of the applicant pool. Every department is a little different, but for mine you don’t do any rotations, you start and end in the same lab. So asking to be in someone’s lab and having them vouch for you holds more weight than an amazing GRE score. Though of course it doesn’t hurt to have both. Hope that helps!

Omera Shahnawaz thank you! And good for you, having one has posed a challenge for me, I couldn’t imagine two. I don’t think I could have done it without the support of my daughters father, advisor, and committee. I have found a strong support system and understanding colleges to be my greatest assets

Hola.
