I’ve been to Russia in February. When you consider the vast distance, temperature extremes, and logistical challenges, the fact that it runs as well as it does is remarkable. I’ve ridden trains in Russia and I give them a high rating.

My daughter is from Krasnoyarsk and my sons were born in Vladimir. I also have friends whose children were born in Chita. My mother and a friend’s traveled across Russia in the trans Siberian in 2014. My kids and I would love to make the trip together some day. So many find memories. Please keep posting. My oh my what a train trip. The train was super modern! The views spectacular. Julia I've never seen you so giggly... something in the water? Matt in shorts on the train with -3 C outside. Cozy train temps! Traveling, especially airports is often "hell". But in the end it is the journey, the people you meet, the crazy things, the smells of a new place, the joy of an adventure. Can't wait for Uzbekistan. See you soon! Linda

I think this was one of my favourite videos you've made. I like my own space, so the thought of sharing a cabin with a complete stranger, who sounds like he could be very inappropriate, would be my worst nightmare, but Julia was very philosophical about it. However, you must've been both physically and emotionally drained, so thank goodness you had that wonderful reunion with your gran, who i think is amazing. I hope we see more of Lera in the future as well, as she's so sweet and looks like good fun.

Another informative and interesting program even with your talkative cabin mate. I kept asking myself, "why didn't they purchase the 4th bed"? Thanks for telling us you considered it but unfortunately you took the chance of either having it unoccupied or having a pleasant (or awful)cabin mate. I watched a couple who traveled from Moscow to Vladivostok in Second Class but they paid for the other two beds in order to have some privacy. It still was a stressful trip for them. They didn't speak or read Russian and that was an added difficulty for them. I promise you that in the years to come you will see the humor in this "adventure". Julia, it was so wonderful that your sister was able to travel with you. Maybe someday you can have your brother and Grandma accompany you on one of your journeys. Take care. 🫂❤️🙏🕊

The solution to long distance train travel is to do lots of stop-overs. It may take much longer but each stopover is an opportunity to see a different place rather than just see the train station surrounds. It may take 2-3 weeks but it has advantages.

We had an experience (nowhere near as bad as yours) when travelling on the Darjeeling Mail overnight sleeper between Kolkata and Siliguri, West Bengal. Like you, there were three of us in a 4 berth AC1 cabin. The fourth member turned out to be a young Bengali guy and he was a nice guy, BUT his phone alarm started to go off at 4am and it kept going every 10 minutes! Trouble is, he was a really deep sleeper and even our attempts to wake him only worked once. His sleepy attempt to switch it off didn't work as it started again within 10 minutes 😂 We thought about booking the fourth berth for future journeys, but apparently there is such a demand that if nobody checks in against that seat, it will be released. I'm not sure if that's correct though. Either way, I don't know how you put up with that for so long!! Kudos to you. Great video and actually the "issues" added to the entertainment value (sorry! 😂)

I'm actually impressed by the space in your compartment 😂 I once went on a school trip to Russia in 2005 and went overnight by train for about 10 hours in a much older and smaller compartment with 3 other guys from St Petersburg to Moscow. There were no cupboards, the bunk beds were tiny and the toilet was a metalled hole in the floor that was guarded by a fierce babushka collecting rubles. Still, looks like yours was much longer and more scenic!

IMHO, one of the greatest lyric baritones ever, gone far too soon (in 2017 at age 55), revered worldwide for his opera performances and beloved for his renditions of Russian folk tunes ("The Cranes"). While I love trains and train travel; plus, I love travel in general (at 100++ countries and counting), I now would not do the Trans-Siberian train journey. Why? Because of exactly what I learned from watching your day-4/day-5 segment. I don't want to hit that wall. YET ... I'm so absolutely grateful for all your videos and this one specifically. Having heard a little about how bad this trip was on your Patreon channel it was good to see this video drop. 5 days in confined quarters with someone who was clearly not all “there”. Yeah…. Umm… wow. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

I had been planning to do this for years, just plucked up the courage and money, then the pandemic intervened then the Ukraine situation. The room tour took me back to travelling in the 1970s, a little less comfortable back then. What an amazing journey, my sort of thing, having got on the wrong train and ended up in Yugoslavia, by mistake and got arrested, great fun. The longest journey in Europe I have taken was Madrid to Venice, quite short really!

Wow - I did not realize until the very end that he was IN YOUR CABIN for FIVE days!! I missed something where I did not realize he was in there!! I just thought he was across the hall and came over all the time. Oh my gosh I can’t even imagine that. Y’all are absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing the good and hard things of traveling. Love your vlogs. Thanks for taking me places I will never probably see with my own eyes. Looking forward to your vlogs with family. I hope you were able to rest and relax- be loved on by family.

Right from when I was young I always wanted to do the trans Siberian railroad trip . Won’t ever do it now so thanks for sharing. Can’t imagine though being trapped with someone like that on your trip. The stuff of nightmares. 😢

Have you ever considered visiting Florida,it's nice this time of year!!There's even a St. Petersburg there which was named after the Russian one, check it out!You can even travel by train on Amtrak through the US,it has it's ups and downs.I think they give monthly passes, don't quote me on that, just refrain from using the Greyhound Bus.

My Dad was one of those people who would tell the same tall stories to anyone who would listen (and anyone who wouldn't!). I rarely had meaningful conversations with him and he would often take over a social situation. But he's been gone 4 years, and I miss him despite his annoying ways. He meant well and I can't show him anything to make him laugh now.

There were so many funny moments in your video. That old man would have driven me bonkers also! I was impressed with the shower facility. It was way more spacious than I anticipated. I really enjoyed taking this trip with you. I couldn't believe how big this country is.

Omg guys, what a trip, stuck with a nutter! Longest train journey was 12 hours overnight in Rhodesia as it was at the time but I was young and had lots of young guys to keep me company! If you managed that trip you'll manage anything. Love as always!❤

I give you props for taking such a humongous train journey. Five days is a sleeper car would send me over the edge lol. It’s epic watching you do the journey, just no5 for me lol.

Ohhhhh those Siberian Pancakes ❤ #pancakevan sounds DELISH ❤ Such a beautiful video - welcome home Julia and Lera - so lovely to see your beautiful Babushka, Andrei and the baby! He has grown so much! Seeing day to day Russian life is so eye opening. Time with family is EVERYTHING. Your Babushka’s crepes looked amazing. And that cafe on “Builders Boulevard “ was pretty incredible too! That old blue scale, the TV set and the other retro items in there were so cool! See ya in the next one #Lenin 😂 Adore you guys! ❤ Jan and Ronnie
