I had to eat a lot of insects, snakes, and of course rice fields rats to survive during the evil Pol Pot genocide. We were sent from Phnom Penh City to dig cannals and dam along Pursat River next to Battambang Province. Most of my family members did not survive and only two of us made it out of 12 . I'm very surprised that they still eat these things today. Cambodia has come a long way since the civil war was officially ended in 1998. I've returned to visit my sole surviving sister every year for the last ten years since my retirement from US. Peace from Khmer in Minnesnowta ✌️

Ur survival foods turned into the comfort foods of my childhood…my grandmother came here wit my aunts n uncles in the early 80s…from the civil war ur generation went thru I learned so much…biggest thing I learned was to forage for food…if anything happened in the USA I would b fine when it comes to foods cuz I’ve eaten everything before

@JC-ji1hp6 ай бұрын
Just came back from Cambodia about a month and a half ago. The food was the best I’ve ever had. Everything was caught, killed, or pulled out the earth that day and the way they grill over a wood fire gives everything such a good char flavor you immediately notice when you come back stateside (and I’m Texan!). The biggest observation I made was that they eat the animal whole for EVERY meal. I’m no doctor, but I think eating as much organ meats and as I did over there attributed to my joints feelings better than ever. And my girlfriend swears it’s healed her psoriasis. I love Cambodia and can’t wait to go back. I encourage anyone to travel and see it especially Angkor Wat which is a masterpiece of a Hindu-Buddhist temple complex.

It doesn't help either that rat farms such as this one hardly exist in the US. Not revolted by rat meat at all. Absolutely delicious imho! Yes, I'm American living in the USA. Lol. That said, it's not a replacement for beef. Beef can't be replaced. But I'd definitely substitute rat meat for beef once or twice a week, especially if it was affordable! Guinea Pig is another outstanding protein!
@KFrost-fx7dt2 ай бұрын
Rats and guinea pigs don't have much meat on them. They're not efficient compared to say chicken and rabbit. Those animals have been selectively bred to get meaty on less food. Some day we might develop rat breeds that are as meaty as broiler chickens. And when we do, I want one as a guard dog haha!

I would give a properly prepared rat a try. They do look good, and hearing Sonny say that he really likes it makes me think that it would at least be worth a try if I could locate a place nearby which was making it. The thing is, in this part of the United States, there will never be a place where I could get it. Here, Pizza is considered "foreign food" and is a little too exotic for some people. Most folks here won't even eat any sort of seafood. Even shrimp gross them out. It's gotta be pig or cow, or else they will not eat it.
