Fun Fact: Scientists recently developed an interesting theory for why Venus's rotation speed is so slow. They theorized that Venus's thick atmosphere slows down the planet's rotation. Venus takes 243 Earth days to rotate one time, but its atmosphere circulates the planet every four days. Extremely fast winds cause the atmosphere to drag along the surface of the planet as it circulates, slowing its rotation while also loosening the grip of the sun’s gravity. Unfortunately, this slow rotation means has dramatic consequences for the sweltering Venusian climate, with average temperatures of up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit due to the runaway greenhouse effect since the thick atmosphere doesn't let any heat escape. Not sure if SolarBalls is ever going to cover this topic in a future video, so I thought I'd include it here.
