Yep. Narc boss asked me on day one of the job- “Do you know how to do that”. I said “Yes I learned it a few years ago”. Then she said “But can you do it yourself”. I said “Oh yes”. Then she said “No you can’t do it because I didn’t teach you”. She THEN arranged for someone to come and teach the said skill to the whole dept because she didn’t know how to do it herself..

T - Transformational E - Empathetic A - Appreciative M - Motivational All members participating and bringing their best to the table. No petty games and power plays. Everyone working together to achieve optimal results, and valued for their aptitudes/skill set. Shortcomings addressed in a constructive manner, and tasks distributed accordingly. ⚖️ ⚖️ ⚖️ I hired someone once who far exceeded my educational level. I felt that I was probably hiring my replacement, but she was the best qualified candidate, so I needed to move past my fear of being replaced and do the right and honorable thing by hiring her. She was amazing, and we became lifelong friends. In truly successful interactions, (work, family, friendship) people are supportive of each other. I don’t see anything wrong with competition, as long as we can feel joy for the successes of others, as well as our own. Metaphorically, Giants are hugely important, but Elves and Fairy Godmothers are essential, too. 😊

Adrian, best of luck in your PhD, I hope you can be a force for doing well by doing good. The funny thing is that I didn't think I had a leadership style because I am not in a leadership position at work, but I do use collaborative leadership with my kids. Whenever I plan a holiday or vacation, I always find out what everyone likes the best and then try to accommodate that so that it is fun for everyone. When my daughter was 2, she wanted to swim and eat breakfast in a hotel, for example. So simple to accommodate, but it made it her vacation as much as ours.

Hi Dr. Carter, Gus and Team Healthy from California. Hello to Adrian Terry too and thank you for being with us. Dr. Carter only brings us the best. You are in my home town. This video speaks to me too as it does Joan. The difference is that my managers always allowed me room to grow and I loved working and always excelled and learned until I was teaching and supervising others and learning from them too. I was a people person and loved all I did. We worked as a team too. I loved working and school. Then at 32 I got married for the first time to this narcissistic person and having five ministers in my family divorce was never an option. Thank you so much Dr. Carter and Adrian Terry, this video has been very exciting for me because it brings memories of the best time in my life and I had not thought of these memories in a very, very long time. Thank you so very much.

Very interesting! As a theater director, I found out the hard way that leadership is about keeping conscious of how the other person is perceiving me and receiving information and especially how it makes them feel positive or negative. In the end it was important for me to let people know how important they are not just to me but for the whole production. I had a lot on my mind - especially the success of the play and sometimes I would find myself giving orders instead of being empathetic. That did not go over well at all!

wow.. this great, Gus. Great guest. I would think this is so pertinent for your audience, as most of us must work for a living. What Adrian says about the narcissistic manager/boss keeping you in a box is so true. I had one like this in Silicon Valley. I would add, that any boss who entertains suck-ups is a narc as well. And I saw this a lot in the Valley. I have come to the conclusion that suck-ups are merely unempowered narcs. Think about it. No shame. And guess what the suck-up will expect from underlings if that person gets promoted by the narc boss..... That's right, they will of course expect to be sucked-up to. That's their dynamic and how they roll. Funny, because I am old enough to remember when this was seen as a failure of leadership, and suck-ups were looked down upon since is a form of CHEATING and not part of a merit-based system.

At a point in my life I attended as school which had a change in leadership. I was an older student and found the new instructor was very knowledgeable about the subject but new to teaching the course. He tapped into my experience as an older person and we feed off of each other. I became a better student and he a better instructor. We both benefitted from the exchange and the younger students got a better teacher in return. This man felt much more comfortable with a relationship with his students that we did incredibly well and graduated with honors. His style of connecting with the students as People helped everyone learn together. It was very rewarding. Thank you Gentlemen. I am happy to be on team healthy with you Dr. C. “Everybody can win.” Yes! I always did extra projects at home that streamlined procedures and caused the daily tasks to flow more smoothly for everyone. A few co-workers would appreciate that, many others would be apathetic or jealous. One supervisor, ever, acknowledged my contribution. Usually, they just wanted to keep me in their box, earning bonuses and praise for them. All I wanted was for everyone to pull together, each of us doing our best, and have a work environment where no one dreaded showing up each day. I hoped we could All come to work thinking, “We are going to do some wonderful work today.” Sadly, I think lots of folks just get ground down until they feel that nothing really matters and they just want to get through the day and go do something they like better. 🌼

First academic job they loved my background the community got involved and removed all the language and practices they felt were too woo woo. I then taught briefly at a private college. I worked very hard yet I was let go. My boss did not get this "participatory" stuff. The students loved it. The main word that came hearing you both was CARE which is the core to my life. In Quiet Cain says introverts make good leaders. I really have to watch my boundaries and as the Highly Sensitive author suggests for me research and writing seem better fits. Now about income... I am amazed and pleased that many understand experientially transformative practices NOW. Adrian gives me hope. Just modeling as he does seems transformative. Maybe we will begin to see more empathy and DRC. That's what I'm here for and it's always great to meet a similar soul. Many thanks both of you.

I think one of the most destructive issues in mental health during Covid was dividing those who were "essential" or necessary and those who were not.

Well, I hope Adrian trains lots of transformational leaders. I suppose the dishonest ones who'd take credit for the work of a team member wouldn't be interested, but if more people knew how to be inspirational, encouraging leaders, hopefully they'll be the ones getting the team leader jobs!

Narcissistic bosses know one saying or at least they understand it, it runs: do not raise you a tiger from a tiger cub, the tiger cub will grow up and will kill you (Chinese proverb and probably one of 33 stratagems, not sure though if is a stratagem, gotta check on it).

Dear Dr C. On Christmas Eve I will wear my 101st Airborne Bastogne shirt from the museum I have visited 3 times. Lest we forget the horrendous conditions and inhumane activities that were enforced by the nazis on Europe. All that remains of the hospital destroyed by a nazi shell in Bastogne (pron: Bass-toyne btw) is a plaque outside a Chinese restaurant. Lep pozdrav in Srecno. Martin

In fact Dr C, I will go one better and upload the videos I made at the 101st Airborne Museum in Bastogne in September 2018 to my KZbin channel. That way you can see what it's like and so can other people who might be interested. It is amateur footage and there is no commentary as a mark of respect. My partner has been the victim of a narcissist smear campaign for 7 years now. The Executive General Manager running the campaign is a former disbarred lawyer. I exposed him by writing a series of letters to politicus the Board, Press, and various ant corruption institutions. All to no avail. All that has happened is that they have somehow linked me to my partner and made his life hell (by shunning, exclusion, denying of opportunities etc etc. Nothing you can actually prove). He has approached the people doing the shunning and bullying to talk (including the narcissist Executive General Manager instigating the campaign). But they just be deny, deny, deny (and continue doing it) Dr Carter, how do you deal with this? It's all smoke and mirrors. It's incredible that people support this criminal and treat my partner as the villain. And it wasn't even him writing the letters. It was me! As a citizen and a taxpayer I pay this crook's salary. I can't believe how people complain about paying taxes for some poor unemployed person or single mother, but don't mind paying for the very high salaries of criminals.

Parenting is vvvv tough... So do not sweat and think you failed..... The very fact you are learning this stuff as part of this group shows your intentions are sincere... So even if you some days feel like you failed surely that's just a small flat spot on the general onward and upward positive path that your creating for your lads... @@amandaliverpool3374 Parents are human, too. Everyone makes an error in judgement somewhere along the way of bringing up children. The most important thing is that the children know you Love them! As adults, they will totally understand if you made a wrong choice from time to time, as long as they know you had their best interest at heart. Good parents do the best they can with the resources and circumstances they have at the time. Above all, they love their children. I think that is the biggest advantage you can give them. ❤ 🕯 ❤

Perfect. In a world being led by narcissistic political leaders, and a distorted corporate media worldview, this sheds a light on alternate possibilities. As well, it lines up nicely with the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion movement. It is empowerment for women leaders whose unique skills and abilities line up nicely with moving the team ahead, rather than themselves. A subject so challenging to those that believe women's should change to match old style gender biases led in old corporate boardrooms.
