I was surprised you didn't do the "Mini-starter" from the jump... Less than half the weight, half the size, 1/3rd the draw, spins several times faster. Me & my buddies who grab them back in the '90's from late '80's M-bodies, trucks, vans in the junkyards & throw them on our A- & B- bodies. Just like seeing guys keep the iron "Fat boy" RV-2 compressor instead of using the Sanden compressor for their AC. If you ever hit Graham, NC, you'll have to see the shop and the stuff inside the place. Quick hint- '68 Charger with about $200+K just in metal work, '61 Imperial with a Gen III Hemi powertrain, a Valiant that does time-distance-speed events. Good choice on the filter. Wix is owned by Affinia, and they do NAPA Gold, Parts Master, etc 'private labels.' Baldwin is also a great choice
@FanelliRestorations15 сағат бұрын
I didn't have any initial suspicion that it was faulty so I certaiby didn't want to add the extra job of replacing it if I didn't have to. Plenty of cars i've had where the old stocker worked/works just fine. Just part of the game, they are great little starters indeed.
@olikat814 сағат бұрын
@@FanelliRestorations I just bought a new one for $105 (cop car had a "Indy fat boy"), re-mans are like $85-ish bucks. Another benefit is that they resist heat soak better, which when you get the car up & driving around with those headers, you'll be glad you switched.
@dixoncider725614 сағат бұрын
@33:30 what made you think the firing order was 180 off? The backfiring through the carb?
@FanelliRestorations11 сағат бұрын
Exactly…that and the sound of it during cranking it just had this pitch and tempo that wasn’t right. 10 years ago I wouldn’t have been keen enough to notice (did that on my first engine I built) but I was proud this time I was able to identify it so readily🏁
@leaburnpatey259611 сағат бұрын
@@FanelliRestorations instead of pulling all the wires off I would have flipped the distributor 180. Big block distributors rotate counter clockwise. I made the mistake one time routing the wires at the cap same as a small block which rotates clockwise! Lol!

Now that it is running make sure you do the underhood ammeter bypass. Critical upgrade to save the wiring and car from burning to the ground.

@RCAquadruplex12 сағат бұрын
So I assume the firing order was 180 out with the original starter? Perhaps it might have started with the old starter if the timing was correct…but it needed a better starter speed eventually anyway.
@FanelliRestorations11 сағат бұрын
Nope it was originally correct with the original starter, then I installed a new distributor and through my troubleshooting wound up with it 180 out by mistake. I tried firing it in the last video with both correct timing and 180 out during all of that work, and neither would matter with that old slow starter lol
@SandraOrminski22 сағат бұрын
sounds like a slant 6 on video. i would run a quart of marvel in the crankcase for a bit and drain when you change that diesel looking oil. scary when somebody bolts this and that on and thank god nothing else is screwed up internally. but its a old mopar their tougher than you think.5400 produced how many are left think about that for a bit. it must have been covered to have the hood roof and drivers door having the rust on it. hope you paint it and enjoy that beast. the 383s love to rev to.
@FanelliRestorations14 сағат бұрын
I agree very quiet I thought the same thing at first the clatter was a lot like a /6. she's tough for sure, i ran marvel through it last week on my last video while trying to get it to run and in the car during the first fire. certainly was planning to do another oil change after some more tuning and getting it roadworthy again soon.
@JoeFilardi14 сағат бұрын
hi good ep im glad you got the car running. next time before you put new oil filter on add some oil in it fill it up to about half of oil then install it make it a lot better for you ok.
@FanelliRestorations11 сағат бұрын
Thank you for watching! As I stated in the video I don’t refill filters like this because of the horizontal orientation. It would just pour right back out. The oil pump refills it so fast, and the rest of the engine still has oil in all of the passageways and still coated on the cylinder walls so it’s a fraction of a second that the pump takes to fill the oil oil filter filter, no damage damage is done.
