One thing I learned according to what was stated from one of the VA's, I believe it was Alan's VA. There was a limit to how LOUD they could scream obviously to prevent the mic from peaking and thus making the audio unusable, you can hear this in some of the screams for the characters as it sounds like they are further away from the mic, and this is completely intentional with the older characters, Not only were they limited with how loud they could scream, if they wanted to scream loud, they had to be slightly further from the mic and in most cases looking at an angle from the mic. Outside of that, some of the 'VA's' were some of the people from the dev team.

People complain about Kate's old scream is so loud or high-pitch, and here we have high-pitch/loud screams like Lara's
