That sweet era in time when Survivor was a unique cultural phenomenon. It was a big deal. Before reality TV culture blew up and over-saturated of entertainment media. Season 8 (Survivor All-Stars) was the last hoorah for that special time in history before reality shows became a dime a dozen.

I didn't like Shii Ann, Helen or Jan. I honestly didn't like any of the cast they were mostly obnoxious and trying to get camera time. I think Jake was the only likable one.

I know that at least two other contestants were considered. Helen was contacted and said she was interested, but she ultimately didn't make the cast. Brian was invited and said he was interested, but he said he'd only compete again if he received an upfront payment. Needless to say, he was dropped from consideration. Ken would have been a good returnee and Penny would have been an okay choice if you ask me.

I just watched this season, and it is hands down the worst season of Survivor I have ever seen. I was not expecting to hate this season as much as I did. The players are unlikeable, boring, and have nasty traits. The racism and sexism was so disgusting and my heart broke for Ghandia and Shii Ann. The game play was awful and boring, everyone basically just handed the season to Brian and Clay. No one was willing to make bold moved. The only satisfying moment in this season was when the jury ripped the finalist a new one in their questioning.

Unpopular opinion: I really liked this season. First time when player i rooted for won. Brian was incredible. He was all about game. He was IMO playing nowadays game 20 years ago - if he played in modern survivor he would be considered as strategic mastermind.

This is my least favorite season. Too many jerk's winning. Boring cast boring gameplay a lot of the memorable people go home pre-jury and the grindgate incident should have been handled way better I believe Ted did it and should have been kicked out and the fact he's on the jury make's it worse than Island of the idols. The good thing's are the debut of Jeff Probst challenge commentary, full evolution of the goat strategy and the conversations around Shii Ann being Asian(kinda ridiculous we had to wait 5 seasons until our 1st Asian player) just like last season were conversations ahead of their time.

I just started going into my survivor binge watch for the first time, season 1-4 is great, there are so many good and genuine people and the people are dynamic. Untill I reached season 5, I couldn't even finish watching it, I stopped at top 5 and just watching for recaps online :( I hate hate hate the 3 dudes on that top 5, full of jerks :( Brian might be good at the game, but he's just insufferable, some of the words he said shocked me :(
