Survivorman - Les Stroud

Survivorman - Les Stroud

3 жыл бұрын

This one was awesome to film as it took me right to the location in California that started it all; where "Patty" was filmed by Roger Peterson and Bob Gimlan. I'm alone at my cottage in Northern Ontario on a dark and stormy night while doing this directors commentary for you all. Enjoy!!
Directed By Les Stroud

I live in Willow Creek, and grew up about 30 miles downstream from Hoopa, on the Klamath river , I'm a member of a neighboring tribe. I've seen footprints that could only belong the creature called "Bigfoot" in the forest. Then my wife and I encountered the creature itself one afternoon in a place we call "the high country". I'll never forget that day. Thanks Les, keep up the good work.

The Patty film is still to this day the best evidence we have. That was definitely a real bigfoot I don't understand why people keep on insisting it's fake. Every single stabilised and upscaled edit of that film show very clear seam lines, and you can see the suit flapping around just like a suit would. The side by side comparisons of people recreating the footage is also incredibly damning, the fact that it looks perfectly into the camera. I want that footage to be real, but it simply isnt.

My dad (Korea-era sniper) and I spent many an enjoyable hour debating the effectiveness and accuracy of Les' survival methods. One point we agreed on was this: You can take Les' word at face value. Period. Nothing more, nothing less. If he says you can boil water in a plastic bottle, you can (but it takes some fiddling around to get it positioned right.) If he says you can eat this "weed," chow down without fear. My dad passed before the Bigfoot episodes aired. It's sad, because he would have enjoyed them very much, as I have. Les, thank you! PS: "American Werewolf in London." Still the best after forty (FORTY!!) years. "Dog Soldiers" is a close second. No CG, all physical effects.

@@scentlessapprentice88 absolutely! This goes far far beyond a “tin foil hat” lunatic conspiracy theory, Sasquatch is just as real as bears and mountain lions to a lot of indigenous American communities, and to thousands of hunters trappers fisherman, the people that actually know the land and get out into the vast expanses of the forest that these pencil pushing scientists just do not venture to. I’ve seen cougars in areas where the state DNR’s deny there is any.same with a Timberwolf in a small town in Iowa. I’ve also heard too many first person accounts of sightings of Bigfoot from reliable trustworthy people to discount their experiences.

I agree with you ! I've lived in California and Idaho , been all over Oregon and Nevada also. 3 years ago myself , wife and 2 daughters observed 5 wolves outside of Crescent City ... State parks , fish and game both said..."We don't have wolves". Right before my dad passed away 2.5 years ago I was able to buy a few acres in Northern CA , close to Tahoe National Forest. I've believe in Bigfoot my whole life , mostly because my father was close to many Native American Elders and they all spoke of Sasquatch as well as old tales of Giants... 2 distinctly separate beings. March of this year around 10pm Full moon I heard a Bigfoot yelling from 2 miles from my property....All the dogs were going nuts! The volume of the vocalization was just so powerful. It was something I'll never forget.

I grew up & still live on 98 acres that are mostly wooded or covered in thick brush located deep in the DeSota National Forest in southern Mississippi. Our property is bordered directly by National Forest on 2 sides. I’ve seen black panther & timber wolves with my own eyes despite all the professionals claiming those animals aren’t here. To be clear, I saw wolves before they “reintroduced” them here roughly 15-20yrs ago. So I personally don’t trust that the official nature specialists always know exactly where all animal species are or aren’t. And if they can be wrong about things like that despite stating it with absolute certainty…what else may they be wrong about? Before I became disabled I spent a LOT of time deep in the woods hiking, hunting, canoeing the many creeks/rivers that flow through deep forest & helping with search & rescue of those lost in the forest. And I’ve heard & seen a lot that I have no explanation for. Many people in this area have similar stories of experiencing seeing or hearing the same things over multiple generations. My dad told me about many of the things he saw, heard & experienced over the years that have no “normal” explanation & he was as common sense, grounded in reality as anyone I’ve ever known. I’m not just talking about Bigfoot either. I was actually with my dad on several occasions when we saw & heard things that didn’t match anything known. When it happens once…you can brush it off as your brain playing tricks on you by trying to make sense of something briefly seen. But when you see the same things repeatedly in the same areas…that excuse no longer works. Even more so when other people you know & trust also admit to seeing/hearing the same sort of things.

Very few. I think my dad has seen one. I saw one. Late night strolling across my dad's parking lot. He use to have a restaurant there. Middle ot the mountains. Cougars are almost gone there. I got to know the park rangers back then. I never talked to one that has seen one. The deer there, protected in the park are everywhere. They have become so thick it is unreal.

You have to be in the woods your whole life to ever experience anything of this nature. Les Stroud has literally put the time in and knows what he's looking for and what he has witnessed in the past that now makes sense to him. He's not wrong my grandparents had stories and so did the Indians. And these folks spent lots of time in the woods..

There's actually two appearances on Joe Rogan he did: in the 1st he was respectful and asked about his Sasquatch experience with great interest. Great video! I'm pretty close to Les in my views of Bigfoot. I grew up exploring the mountains of Idaho, so I'm familiar with the utter vastness of the wilderness and the possibility of Bigfoot. I have also experienced things that I could not explain, and have spoken with people I respected that had their own encounters. Still, not every broken tree, or knock in the woods is Bigfoot. Les has a very balanced, rational, and fact-based view of Bigfoot that is refreshing and enjoyable.

Welcome aboard. If you haven't already, check out Wes Germer's Sasquatch Chronicles. It's the gold standard for witness interviews (Wes and Les are friends). I also recommend David Paulides Bigfoot 101, it's long and tedious but he presents a lot of good evidence. I've read thousands of reports on the BFRO website, and I began to see very similar behaviors throughout and also hundreds of reports in which nothing is seen. If you set out to invent a bigfoot story, wouldn't you say you saw something? BFRO is an okay source but there are many fake reports, especially from before they started interviewing witnesses before posting their report.

Mr Stroud, you may never read this but I truly appreciate you and what you do. I have always said, if you want to learn how to survive watch Les, if you want to know what special forces would do, watch Bear. I feel Bear knows his business but if your average Joe went out with him they'd not make it back. If they went with you they would make it back and better for the wear. I've noticed in the director commentaries you comment on the people that don't enjoy exactly what you are doing. As a creator myself I know it's important to listen to the audience but some people just want to complain. To me, in this oversaturated world, that just means the content is just not for them. Love your no-nonsense/skeptical-but-curious approach to this subject Les. SINCERELY.....Sadly this field has long had too many loons for most to take it seriously but your honest objectivity, taken from experiences that you yourself cannot explain, brings a MUCH NEEDED authenticity that is soooooo welcomed by many like myself who are equally fascinated by the subject. What makes you the Defacto authority, in my opinion, is your lifelong experiences living in some of the worlds most remote regions where most of us wouldn't last a day. To hear something and almost immediately recognize it as a squirrel, branch, bobcat, Fox, Bear can only come with spending many years exploring these remote forests. I think I speak for many when I say that I sincerely hope you continue in your quest for answers here as so many of us either don't have the balls, means or knowledge in which to spend weeks in these remote regions that you call your 2nd home. Keep up the GREAT work because we're all better for it...

Keep up the good work Les, it’s the little clues that begin the journey. The sounds, feelings, strange unexplainable structures in places no one would ever be. Sounds and footfalls in the night that don’t fit with any other animal. Then there’s the footprint out of place, barefoot when no one in their right mind would be going barefoot. Then the deer runs, herds in the same area as the footprints. Then if you’re lucky having traveled miles through the woods and then about to exit the woods and return to the world, you might want to turn around and look back and you just might see something like a dark shadow, a hump, blending into the background, the hill, the forest, black and big like a boulder or tree stump. Then as you give it a moment, it moves and is suddenly up and gone back into the woods. It followed you while in the forest, shadowing your journey curiously watching from a safe distance your every step, and yep, then you’ll know exactly what that was. No yelps, no whoops, no terrifying screams, no knocks, just a silent curious animal stalking you through its territory.

We camped at Aikens Creek campground, only a half-mile from where Bluff Creek flows into the Klamath, and had it all to ourselves. We had a lot of funny moments and one bona fide scary night along Bluff Creek, encountering a sudden smell at the same moment something started gruffly barking at us. Along the Klamath, we found three foot-shaped impressions in the soft dirt, spaced about 4 feet apart. We also hiked around Fish Lake: that seems like the best campground to really be close to Bluff Creek. Plus there were huckleberries as big as small grapes.

One theory on the immense feeling of fear is that the Sasquatch can produce infrasound, which can be detected by humans but not through hearing. In lab tests infrasound can produce feelings of fear, paranoia, sometimes depending on volume even physical feelings like nausea and pain (Infrasound, human health, and adaptation: an integrative overview of recondite hazards in a complex environment -Persinger2014). The US military used weaponized Infrasonic devices in Iraq for warfare. There is even precedence in biology for weaponized infrasound, tigers use infrasound at 18hz immediately before pouncing. In theory at the right frequency it could vibrate components inside of electronics and cause disruption in the proper functioning of the device.
