Survivors or Victims? Can we label people affected by conflict?

What do we call people who have been affected by conflict, war, and terrorism? Is ‘victim’ the right word, or is ‘survivor’ the right word? For months, I had internally been running this around in my head, and I finally got to discuss the issue with someone who has been in the field for quite some time.
Here’s a mini snippet of my conversation with Dr. Udeni Appuhamilage, Clinical Psychologist, Trauma Consultant, and university lecturer.
