She actually deserved National awards for Ilayaraja's compositions: Devanin kovil, Yedhedho eNNam vaLarthaen, Kaatrodu kuzhalin naadhame, and Thatthithom by Keeravani. All those 4 songs are GREATER compositions and far more difficult to sing than Uyire and Maanaa madurai. LOBBYING!

9:12 - Hearsay story that Vairamuthu is capable of telling. 10:28 - Chitra did not win a National Award for Kannaalaney. When will channels ever hire good anchors? Why didn't she refute?! 13:55 - Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai was composed by Ilayaraja, and Malayalam original movie Aniyathipravu was composed by Ouseppachan; both are different tunes! 22:10 - Chinna Kuyil title was because of that song. MANO - CHITRA combo magic happened because of Ilayaraja, just like he immortalized SPB - SJ combo. For Sindhu Bairavi, when Chitra was prioritizing her PG exams instead of the recording, IR asked her to sing for the album. Her father persuaded her, and she won her first National Award for 2 songs; the rest was history. Frankly, she sang BETTER songs for IR (Poove poochudavaa, Yedhedho ennam, Devanin kovil, Kaatrodu kuzhalin and several more) which were not awarded, than her latter songs which won her National awards (Ooh lalala, Ovvoru pookkaLume). Another song for which she deserved an award for, was Thathiththom in Azhagan, under Keeravani's music.
