I thank you for providing a beautiful, bright, cheerful atmosphere for the children. I'm a retired first grade teacher and see so many of the classrooms in brown and black. Some even cover the walls with black fabric. So stark and depressing for young children, in my opinion. Do your students bring any supplies from home? I taught in a Title One school and would have loved having all of the extra materials from year to year. I'd spend much of my own money for kid's basic necessities through the year. The little amount of money teachers received for supplies had to be for construction paper, copy paper, basic office supplies.

You are amazing! Love all that you do! I was wondering if you do skill groups for reading (we are moving away from leveled readers and more into skills) would love to see you in action with showing skill groups for reading!! Thank you for all you do!
@SusanJonesTeaching6 ай бұрын
@@KathrynMinerva yes ALL my groups are skills-based groups! We only introduce a leveled reader in the second half of the year and only once per week. By this point students can decode most of the words in the texts!

@jenclausen41556 ай бұрын
I second this; curious about the writing folders.
@SusanJonesTeaching6 ай бұрын
Yes! I will try to make a short video about it for IG or TikTok showing what's inside - but it is what we use to store our writing within each genre. I just put a page with each students' name at the front and it is a 2-pocket folder for students to store their work. The sleeves in the middle let me put in things like that sound wall and heart word sheet for students to reference when writing. I also put the CUPS editing checklist at the end for them to check their work. After each writing genre, we empty folders and take everything home!
@colleenvala62056 ай бұрын
@@SusanJonesTeaching I wondered about these, too. Are the clear pocket sleeves just stapled together?
@SusanJonesTeaching6 ай бұрын
@@colleenvala6205 good question! No, it’s a 4 pocket folder from Nickys. They’re expensive - our district bought them for us, but it’s essentially a 2 pocket folder but with 2 clear plastic sleeves inside

Doesn't your school have you send old curriculum to the district warehouse? We are doing that with our old math curriculum. We are now using iReady. I see you use Fundations for phonics. I use that too.
