This video is part of talkPOPc's Art as Cognition project. There are four paintings in this particular series, each dealing with a particular philosopher, and presenting how each philosopher shows us a version of how art is a kind of epistemology. Art allows us to access the world through someone else's eyes. Philosophy does, too. For Susanne Langer, and the art that tracks and echoes her views, it is about the emotion that lies subconsciously beneath our perception: Much of our epistemic understanding of art is nonconscious. Art can give us access to the framework of nonconscious perception. Susanne Langer is a guide to this.
