I think people are focusing too much on the fact that Fernanda Torres wasn’t nominated for other awards. The point is: I`m Still Here hadn’t been released outside Brazil by the time voting closed for those other awards. Torres and Moore delivered the two best performances of the year, and the competition will be between them-especially with I’m Still Here nominated for Best Picture.

So happy for Flow, I’m Still Here, Alien Romulus and Nosferatu and The Substance. Very sad for Challengers. Emilia Perez should only have been nominated for song and international feature. 13 nominations is ridiculous. I’m Still Here beating it would be fantastic

@@lorenzo_smit oh I love it. It's a slow burn for sure but it's so thematically juicy. It tackles similar themes as The Substance but I found it more relatable since it's not about a fallen starlet.

A lot of nominations were easy surprises, since a lot of roles were the ones that really took everyone off their seats. My favourite singer, Ariana Grande- I hope she earned it. Demi Moore really made the Substance a film that change everything in a instant

@@Sharpe1502 There was a Kickstarter campaign to release "The Apprentice" in theaters because distributors were spooked by any potential legal threats from the Trump team. I think this is going to remind me of 2019 for Best Actress where Glenn Close kept winning and on Oscar night Olivia Colman got it. Fernanda is good too but really want Demi Moore or Mikey Madison!

Felicity Jones was nominated for best actress for The Theory of Everything .Cynthina Erivo was nominated for Harriet as best actress . I think as far as a surprise for director Edward Berger not getting in for Conclave was unexpected . I am surprised I got 5 for 5 for Best actress and spporting actress .I was going back on the fifth spot for best actor and supporting actor. The only best actress nominee I haven't watched yet is I'm Still Here but I predicted Torres for a nomination .She won the Golden Globe .I wasn't that into some of the other frontrunners that were considred so Torres was my choice to round out the nominations . Arianna or Monica would be my choices for supporting actress. Timothee or Colman for actor and Yura for supporting actor. Still need to watch The Apprentice . I love all the choices for animated choices feature A pst Oscar video would be fun!

Ms. Sue, please explain why you refuse to include the Writing categories in these reactions. Do you not recognize that the Writing categories are immensely instrumental in either helping a Best Picture case-going by the stats, arguably as much, if not more, than Best Director at this point-or serving as a consolation prize for a Best Picture nominee that likely won’t win the top prize (e.g., _American Fiction_ over _Oppenheimer),_ along with the amusing random stray nominations?
@Wired4Life2Күн бұрын
For example, one can’t note Clarence Maclin’s unfortunate absence in Best Supporting Actor for _Sing Sing,_ without taking into account that he’s part of the writing team that’s now nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, which may have influenced less Actors branch members to nominate him for a 2nd, equally-deserving category.

Emilia Perez is pure art. Most people basing it are either ignorant or narrow minded.
@dante6985Күн бұрын
It's a good film but movies like Mulholland Drive were pure art too (RIP David Lynch) and didn't get 13 Oscar nominations. If you think the politics of the film didn't play a role in its excessive accolades, I don't know what to tell you. You have full permission to label me a narrow-minded transphobe.
@indauroleal7953Күн бұрын
@dante6985 well funny that you mentioned Mulholland Drive, because that is one of my top five favorite movies of all time. And that was the first time I understood a lesbian relationship, and it all came out if the mind of a man! But I would compare Emilia Perez with some of the work of the brilliant Reiner Werner Fassbinder, who by the way if was alive today would be so cancelled because he was as daring as Audiard
@MoviesSueКүн бұрын
No, it's simply people not liking a film. I didn't care for it. Doesn't make me a bad person. We all don't have to enjoy every movie.
@dante6985Күн бұрын
@ Mulholland Drive is one of my favorites too. Perez is a good film - ultimately I think it's about being reborn - but 13 nods? That's a joke. Selena Gomez barely speaks passable Spanish. It's laden with stereotypes (about trans people, about Mexico, etc). Mulholland Drive cleverly steers clear of (most) tropes about lesbians. Save bury your gays of course, which was a much less grievous offense in 2001. While I think it's worlds better than big budget fare like Gladiator II or Alien Romulus (what they did to Ian Holm is ghoulish) they could have slimmed down the nominations to single digits and recognized I Saw the TV Glow, Challengers, Heretic, or the many international features that didn't get a single nod.
@nelsonarmandosantosgarcia8478Күн бұрын
Actually, me hating it has nothing to do with politics or the fact that it has a trans woman as the main protagonist. I hate it because it takes a serious problem for many latinos and makes fun of it with a musical. Imagine a latino director making a musical film about 9/11 or school shootings.

I think it's incredible that we've finally reached a time when a trans woman can reach these places, but I don't think the film is in a good enough tone to tell the stories it intended to tell... Many trans people were offended by the film, and they also believe it fuels transphobia. Not to mention the superficial way it portrayed the disappearances caused by drug trafficking in Mexico. I don't even need to talk about the problem of Latin stereotypes! But you know what would make the troupe really happy? I'm still here. And it's not because of his contempt for saying that he doesn't need Brazil or Latin America (remember that Pérez is French), but because the film impeccably and respectfully portrays the disappearances of the military dictatorship, which was a far-right government that emerged as a way to "save the country". The film shows us how governments like this eliminate those they see as "the problem with everything", destroy entire families and trivialize evil. Fernanda Torres, a Latina woman from the so-called "global south", winning with a film that appears as a defender of memory in this period in which trivializing evil has become normal again, a film that is extremely hated by the Brazilian far-right that supports Trump, I believe that this is very symbolic.
