Sustainable Christmas Ideas | Quick tips for an eco-friendly Christmas

I have made a lot of fabric gift bags that close with a drawstring. I'm not a seamstress, but my daughter sews well and she showed me how to make a gift bag. I bought Christmas fabric on sale after Christmas so was able to make a number of bags in all different sizes and patterns. Just put the gift in and pull the drawstring to close the bag. So much faster and easier than wrapping with paper.

i also love to collect cones and chestnut. i live pretty minimalist and love the touch of nature and warmth the natural materials bring to the home, especially in the dark season.

Growing up, we always had something to wear and something to read. The “want” and “need” gifts might be individual or a large family item: one year, it was a toboggan, for example.

My Mother has been gifted a huge willow wreath instead of a flower bouquet about 20 years ago - every year I decorate it for her for the german "Advendskranz" tradition (4 candles, 1 per sunday for 4 weeks before christmas). That was pretty much the most sustainable decor piece she ever got from anyone.Ever. :-)

Love the sustainable take on Christmas. We did stuff like this in the 60’s and 70’s too. We used newspaper for wrapping paper and made ribbons and bows out of old fabric remnants to brighten them up. I still dry oranges for the tree, and used to make popcorn garland, but now I have a thrifted vintage mercury glass b ad garland I use instead. Great ideas - I hope you inspire lots of people to rethink some Christmas traditions.😊🎄❤
