Thanks for sharing this with us, Alli! We'll be moving this summer, so this helps a lot! Going to be a lot farther than 30 miles so I'm hoping we can hire a moving company (and we're moving with a cat) but I definitely think deep breaths will be necessary to get through it during this crazy time! I've always used tote bags and dish rags for breakables, and we save our packing paper as much as we can as long as we have space to store it. My hubs and I move enough that I even save some boxes and have started to put the dates on them to mark how long we've used them. Feels pretty cool to see the story. I really like the idea of reusable moving boxes, especially with the dollies! I feel like that will be so much easier to manage than a bunch of random sized boxes! I can only carry so much on my own.

Great tips! I’ve never done reusable moving boxes! We moved a handful of times before we bought our house so I always saved most of our moving boxes and shoved them in a closet. They had 3 or so moves in them! Getting cardboard boxes second hand is not terribly hard either, as you mentioned. The plastic moving boxes do seem extra sturdy though, which looks helpful. My biggest moving tip (non-pandemic times) would be to hire professional movers. 😂 Not to do the packing, but just the heavy lifting. Especially if you live in a building with lots of stairs. We started hiring movers when we got married and bought our bed frame, which is really heavy and can’t really be broken down into smaller pieces. My husband and so are both 120 lb people so we hired a local company. Both times we’ve used them, they were super fast, had all the equipment to move many boxes in one trip to the truck, etc. They have a plan for how to handle things if it’s raining that day, as it was when we moved into our house. They just have so much experience because it’s their job and they do it every day. If you’re worried about heavy items, you’re injured, or you’re worried about stairs and stuff, movers can make the experience so much more pleasant. Well-worth the investment.

I am really cheap but that also help to be mindful cause I always go to my local fast food restaurants and their fry boxes are really hard so before they recicle them I get them, use them then recicle them myself or if a neighbor wants them next I will glady hand them over!☺️ but thank you for sharing all this tips!

Excellent video with great ideas and tips. This is how I also move, but I didn’t know about the idea of rentable boxes. I am keeping this in mind for our next move.

I did not know about these reusable boxes! Might be moving soon so I will look into these! We have always just gone around to various stores to get boxes they were throwing out but those rental ones are so nice! And wrapping things in towels is a fabulous idea! Sometimes I would just take a chance and wrap nothing lol I hate Facebook too so I will be checking out offer up! Very helpful video! Love your channel & style.

Such great tips! I love using dish towels and clothing for dishware/glassware. I'd love to hear more about tips for moving plants! Last time I moved I had to gift away almost all of mine and hope not to have to do it again when I move next.

Hi Alli! Have you ever moved a big distance and took all your plants with you? I anticipate moving at some point but don't want to give all my plants away :(
