Anandi, I am a big fan of all your videos and have watched most of your book reviews. You do an amazing job! I liked this one especially and could very well relate to the days I spent with my mom after my dad passed. My mom lived only for 6 months after my dad passed away, but she taught me how to be positive and embrace life even after loosing my dad, who was her partner for 53 years. I really learnt a lot from her. Thanks for your awesome book review.

It's a very serious topic which needs to be discussed in India. I'm seeing this issue in my own family since my childhood. My own mother got verbally abused by the family and the so called society for not having husband. My father died due to an accident, it's been 27yrs. From the day 1 to till now my mom getting hurt by the society. 1. Oru ponnuku husband Ilana avangaluku society thara name "விதவை". But oru aanuku ipdi yen entha name illa society la. 2. Ponna matum ethuku “சகுன தடை" apdi solranga. 3. Poo, pottu, valayal ithu elam pengaloda adayalam nu sonnathu yaru. Ithu elame oru ponnu pirantha naal irunthu poda kuda vishangal. Ithukum husband Kum enna relationship iruku. Husband yeranthuta ethuku oru ponnu ithelam poda kudathu 4. Intha kaalathula kuda pengala yen culture name ah soli adimai paduthuthu intha so called society Ipdi pala kelvigaluku vidai ilamal oru oru naalum kadanthu poitae iruku. Please I'm asking everyone to treat other women as a human. Women's, especially women's who lost their husband doesn't need special attention or care. They are just asking us to treat them as a equal human. Please treat everyone equally with respect and empathy.🙏

Hats off !!!! even this video itself heals me a little. I lost my mom in a road accident last year. Even i feel so guilty, when i laugh out loud. the inner voice of me telling, "how can you laugh like this? you lost your mom. very selfish human". I am fighting with my own thoughts everyday. Now i realised that my thoughts are wrong. My mom feels so happy when I smile and I convinced myself. But , truly missing her lot. As you said, even death is good and it tells you something. My mom had severe head injury. after she got hurt, she lost her consciousness and passed away. now i feel thankful to god that she doesnt go through any pain in her death and these kind of social pressure.

💔 this book is completely what I thought when my mom go through these bloody rituals... even my mom also hate this rituals but she follows to avoid unnecessary comments around us.. I said there is no need to show anyone how much she miss my father... all women have to chance their mind... if they or their loved ones pass through these shit rituals they will found that pain.. if all are ready to change today, we can neglect that pain in future...

Proud to say in Islam❤ when a husband dies she does not need to go through any society discrimination or any sort of it, only thing is she needs to wait for 3 months or 4 months (to avoid pregnancy) before marrying anyone, In this period she should not wear any make up, travel (if not important). If some one dies we should only cry and grief for 2 days, since they have gone back to the creator, only a wife has 10 days to grief about her husband. Marrying to some one after 3 months is her choice Note: please note I am talking about Islam not the culture Indian Muslim follow

Still such widow discrimination is practiced in the society, they are keeping it subtle. Even today's women feel awkward to keep bindi, flower, vibrant colored sarees, etc., whn they become widow. I have 2women in my family, one is mom and other is my cousin. They themselves curl into widows tagline subconsciously bcz of the social conditioning but within they wana b themselves. We need to change such things in families and support them with respect, just like a normal individual. Society should support people with respect, empathy and freedom.

Let us not impose rituals. Include them in family gatherings They are not unlucky because they lost a loved one. All they need is support to cope with their loss. Hey Ananthi, last year i lost my spouse..my beloved one at 28..past 1 and half year was in grieving..cant come out of that trauma till today..Since we r educated doesnt support to escape from all rituals.on that day i was like hell but people forced me to get in to those..except white saree concept every thing happen to me which i hate the most..so please if they not ready for all stupid ceremony dont let force them..that would be more painful till their end..when we ask reason people simply say tis s all good for ur future nu...How funny rit..

Me too same story, in this place i took a stand of avoiding worshiping God, and started worshiping Nature, so no rituals in my family for me and children , they corner us in the name of God, and i avoided visiting functions and started to support nature and needy people with my children, so i am out of all these stupidity
