Alles wahr,was zu diesem zeitpunkt kommentiert wurde!wer konnte ahnen ,dass dima bald darsuf noch eis draufsetzen würde. Man beachte besonders die stelle "...un vindice avraaaaai siii vendetta" , die beiden "vendetta"gegen gildas fürbitte und dann die beiden "no" und " nooo"! Einfach unfassbar! Jeder gute dirigent wird sich völlig dem rythmus von dima anpassen; er kann (nein konnte...) jeden ton nach belieben länger durchhalten als bisher üblich beiseinen illustren vorgänger ...es ist ungassbar .,was wir heute (ich bin 81) mit hvprostowski ,netrebko,garanca.,flores und wohl bald noch jüngeren supertalenten noch erleben dürfen...

Arthur de Silva: Yes this was truly a spectacular performance at the MET 1972 during a special Verdi festival. The Duke was Luciano Pavarotti and Marti Talvela was Sparafucile with Bonynge conducting. Unfotunately, there is no video of this performance. A studio recording on Decca-London is still available in CD format. From 1960 to 1980 was another Golden Age at the MET with iconic singers like Tucker, Corelli, Price, Nilsson, Domingo, Carreras and Merrill to name a few.

A recording of Rigoletto with Callas, Gobbi and di Stefano was my first opera recording, EMI ,cica 1964.I played this dudetto over and over again.Sutherlands Lucia at Covent Garden 1973 made me obsessed with her and her voice.I loved her as Lucrecia , Norma , Elvira and Anna B. Caballe also became a favorite of mine as Semiramide and in reciatal with orchesta. First prima donna was Nilsson in many roles live in Stockholm.

If a duetto doesn't excite an audience (as here) enough to applaud over the concluding chords of the stretto---why bother? What a final E-flat! The picture is to-die-for. Sutherland + Milnes + Verdi = Divine. Those were great days....

Sutherland, Pavarotti, Milnes. Rigoletto. That's nothing like that at the Met now. I agree with the poster on the PURITANI vid that the Met should just be turned into a movie theatre. It's an embarrassment to the tradition and history of opera now.

You may get your wish that the Met is nearing its end. If you go to the DJS forum, you'll find an article regarding the financial problems it's having. And remember the New York City Opera went out of business in 2010... Netrebko is filling up stadiums right now. And so has Meade. They are going the Pavarotti route to attract as big a crowd as possible before their voice is history. Did you know that Netrebko just use her lyric voice to sing a "triumphant" Macbeth in Munich. She looked ridiculous wearing a orange wig. Macho, we HAVE to find a way to PM each other. It seems my YT mail is not receiving mail. I can send them, but can't receive them. Matey and Anne are having the same problem. I may just get a yahoo email and use that to pm my opera friends. Meanwhile, just use the replies in videos to comment to each other. Matey just posted DJS's last E flat she ever sang from an outdoor concert, 1986. You MUST hear it. She also posted a Boston Bel Raggio that's may be her best. Then a post of the entire wonderful 1966 Paris Concert which is one of my favorites And also this entire Rigoletto complete, opening night 1972.

He just posted the entire 1972 Live Rigoletto on the DJS website...ho there to see the post of rigoletto to link to his videoHe figured a way to pm me so we've been talking for a while. Matey is the biggest poster of Sutherland's Live videos on the DJS site. He posted 3 Esclarmondes, the Live 1987 Trovatore plus many others. Go to the DJS site and see the complete 1972 Rigoletto with Sutherland/Pavarotti/Milnes singing not one sour note in the entire performance. The way it was tapes give super dynmatics to the size of their voices. Sutherland's Caro Nome was sublime. You've got to check it out. If you figure out how to pm me, we can communicate that way. Netrebko's fans are not as annoying as Gruberova's fans. They are constantly on coloraturafan's videos saying she's the greatest coloratura of all time. And as you know, I rarely confront anyone. So I have to bite my tongue reading their ridiculous remarks that Gruberova at 68 is better than Sutherland at 33. And they actually think Gruberova has the vocal weigh to sing Norma better than Sutherland!!!

diana ventura Wow Diana I would like to hear some of those recording you mention here. And YES Netrabko is ridiculous. She got plump and started pushing the middle voice and the very idea of her trying to sing Donna Macbetto is a desperate one. I saw her in the rehearsal for Anna Bolena and the voice whilst dark was a bit lyric al la Freni. No more . No less. But these days in Opera at the MET Battle would be singing Lucia and June Anderson Tosca. It truly is absurd really. But its all in the training most simply want a fast in and get out of the biz..

@@TheRegulated I was at the final dress for this run (this is the first of the four Sutherland Met Gildas). She made the same mistake at the dress rehearsal! And if you listen carefully to the studio recording from 1971, she STARTS to do the same thing but catches herself (the "Per-" of the word "Perdonate!" is too high, this octave jump taking her to a high Cb, instead of an Ab). Thankfully, she corrected it by the next performance on June 14, 1972).

Tibor Dr. Szabados: You need to get your hearing checked. Find a good doctor. One better than you! Milnes is excellent and so is their complete recording although both Gobbi and Taddei are very good on their recordings.
