For those of you that like MAPLE FLAVORED Bake Beans, follow Leisa's recipe, but, add 1 Tbsp of real Maple Syrup per pint jar before sealing the jar with your lid. 1 1/2 Tbsp for quart jars. Why add maple syrup at the end ? Because you want the sugar and flavor of the maple syrup. If you put it in the pot and cook it the other ingredients it will dilute the maple syrup. :-)

Maple sugar is a highly concentrated natural sugar… a little bit goes a long way. I think I will try this instead of trivia or swerve brown sugar.

I would be adding bacon or some smoked pork so would process the beans at 75 minutes for pints. Also would drain the beans and add separately so that I got an even amount of beans in each jar. Boil the liquid and seasonings and then add to the beans already in the jars.

Yesterday my husband opened the first pint jar of your wonderful baked beans (with pinto beans). He said "Next time you should can these in quarts!!" I told him it is a side portion, not an entre! His reply, "it was a small side!" thanks for a great meal in quarantine!

My grandmother (born in 1908) would drain the baked beans and then add all the ingredients she would normally put in her potato salad (minus potatoes), hard boiled egg, onion, celery, sweet pickle relish, mayo and mustard, chill it and serve it as salad. Still works with pork chops!

I started using the Cento tomato paste in a tube if the recipe doesn't use a whole small can. Love the flavor! Little trick I learned to get all that tomato paste out of the can: use can opener to open both top and bottom lids. Next, push the lid from one end forcing the paste through. Remove the other lid as the paste comes out. No waste!

Thanks so much. One if my favorite recipes uses baked beans as a base. I quit using the popular canned version as it contained too many ingredients I no longer wanted to consume. Here's my recipe if anyone wants to try. 1/4 pound bacon 1 pint jar baked beans Enough chopped onions to fill the pint jar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar (might need to reduce due to sweeteners in baked beans, but they are meant to be very sweet) 1/4 tsp ground cayenne, for children, or increase to 1/2 tsp for adults Fry bacon in skillet. Add onions and cayenne, and cook until half done. Stir in sugar and beans. Simmer until onions are tender. My grandkids love this with hot dogs for the 4th of July.

I always had a problem with the left over tomato paste until I saw how you can put the left over in a small plastic bag. If there’s very much you can flatten it in the bag. Throw it in the freezer keeping it flat to freeze. Then when frozen it can stand up, it doesn’t take up much space and when you need some for another recipe you can break a portion off or use the remainder. I thought that was a nice tip

I don't know if you still see comments on older videos but I'm trying to learn about canning. I am BRAND new to canning. I have a few questions. 1) For most recipes for pressure canning, is it okay to do half-pints and process them for the time for pints? For me, small batches would be more useful and generally half pints would benefit me the most. 2) If I made something that included something that had already been canned (such as vegetable soup in which I add tomato juice that was previously canned from garden tomatoes), would it matter that the tomatoes were basically canned twice? 3) For storage of half-pints, since they are such short jars, what do you recommend? I feel like it would be hard to find very short shelves so that they are not stacked on top one another. Is it ever safe to stack them on one another (such as if there is a layer of cardboard between)? I am so new to this that I keep thinking of questions but can't wait to start canning! I love your channel. Thank you

Do you think the shorter processing time is because of the high sugar content? The reason I am asking is I would be using swerve Brown sugar substitute, And sugar free Maple syrup to replace the molasses. Because if the shorter time is because of the sugar then I would probably need to process at the regular bean timing correct?
@SuttonsDaze4 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's the reason but to be on the safe side I would agree with increasing the time

I canned the Ball Boston Baked Beans recipe and it started out "soupy" but by the time I got ready to can them they were a little thicker and then after processing there wasn't much liquid left. I added the water it said to and added water while baking. I didn't want to dilute the flavors too much. Now I'm wondering if I should've added even more water. I did the quick soak method on the beans the recipe called for.
