I actually love that GPS snap feature. Not that I have tall buildings around me but it’s just nice to see Suunto innovating. Actually it’s nice to see that Suunto is still doing anything, alive and kicking. I was worried there for a while. 😬 Great video Ray!

Nice to see Suunto still innovating. Looks very nice, but maps is still a killer have for me personally. But it's good for the whole sector for competitors to snap at each others heels with features. Stops any of them getting complacent.

Same. The mapping/direction/logging features and HR stuff is what I want. Most of the other stuff is just fluff. Needs: Accurate maps, accurate direction headings (where to go), pace, time on route, HR. That's it.

snap to route is needed for the Suunto 7. My altitude doubles and got 4 replacements after sending them quantified-self statistics. No idea if it's a baro or cheap gps chip. I only use GPX files for my hikes / bikes so snap to route would be perfect for me.

Hey look, it's Amsterdam Zuid 4:50. Thanks for the detailed review. Admittedly what most interests me about the Suunto is the comparative thinness. Most sports watches, Garmin included, are 20-50% thicker. It's absurd. You know, our arms are long... when is someone going to make a "landscape" style watch that can be quite long while also being thin?

The hardware, particularly in titanium, looks beautiful. I just can't get past what happened when I was an early Spartan Ultra buyer. It took a *long* time for that watch to get features my 920XT had for ages. No ANT+ or topo maps either...a shame.

I really like the Design and the suunto Ecosystem. It's so good to see that suunto can still deliver something really new. And the Snap to Route Feature...to be honest most of the "innovations" of all the new Sportswatches aren't kind of a big thing. Coros - with it's Track Run Features, Polar - with it's Performacne Tests or Garmin - with their Ultralong Battery (on the Enduro for 899). So with this as competition, I think Snap to Route is pretty nice ;-)

I switched from Garmin 235, and for me touch screen is a BIG plus. in Garmin navigation with buttons is very slow and cumbersome. also, sometimes buttons are pressed during excercise, ruining the measurement. in Suunto 9 peak, buttons are very tight, and unlikely pressed by wrist motion. Also, snap to route is very nice feature for races on roads, where you know the track. Not so useful for trail running though

@@phillipcsandoval9094 I am getting a refund from Amazon. After 10 days of usage...both the hardware and the software including analysis appear to be 3/4 baked. SUUNTO 9 Peak Granite Blue Titanium looks good, light, fast charge, lasts long...and GPS looks good. But the rest of the features...they are sexy but not useful or practical for everyday use. Like, sleep capture, rest estimate, temperature, (I don't even know the weather alert will even work...haha, I'm in California), HR is way off...had to pair my chest Polar H9 to be accurate, brightness and raise to wake don't work consistently, notifications don't clear (Android), and sleep analysis is wonky. Got the S9P and it's "okay." It looks good. But... temperature is 15'F off (I know I didn't buy it for that... but either do it right or don't do it at all). I'm above average multi-sport fit 50 yo., S9P says I'm fair and keeps saying I'm losing fitness. 🤪 And the HRM has me clocking 190 bpm (yes, I have it snugly placed up). I am constantly stressed. I need 103h recovery time after wearing it 10 days. Not all notifications disappear. Sleep sensor does not track the duration properly. Screen brightness is not that bright..it is not consistent even after setting as bright and fixed. All in all, S9P features and analysis feel half baked because various measurements are not good enough. Battery life and charging time is great.

Did you report your findings to Suunto support? As a 40yo distance runner I'd never expect Garmin or Suunto analytics to tell me where I am in my fitness or running shape. @@liljemark1 In Garmin it heavily rely on min and max HR -> HR zones. And people can set whatever they "believe" is true and then the watch outputs trainings that it "believe" as to be true... :D HR zones are changing with your SpO2max (probably most quickly for beginners or "returners" to fitness) and I guess not much people are updating their min/max HR and zones. So: - New feature useful in less than 5% of your runs (stick to map), at best, and only on road (not trail) - Nothing really new with the HR sensor, hopefully better than the S7/S9 where it's really bad and inconsistent - New sensor that isn't really useful (Pulse O2) - Wireless updates (3+ years late) - Smaller screen, meh - Ambient lite sensor, about time (5+ years late) - Another change of charging cables, thank you for the environment (never had issues with the S9) - SuuntoPlus is still one by one, and cannot be enabled by default Yeah, will pass. Appreciate the very fair review, where you don't try to oversell the watch, just speak about the facts (although a pros/cons comparison with the S9 could have been nice). It's a good update from Suunto, just at least 18 to 24 moths late. Won't get people back to / switch to Suunto, and the ones who are thinking about leaving will likely do it.

I don't think you need the LTE which is more suited for multi day adventures, and that the Fenix would just be throwing money, so you can stick with the non LTE 945 which is on sale right now. An alternative is the Polar Vantage V2, which has about the same features (although the Garmin platform is recognized has being better). Third option is the Coros Apex. Spartan Ultra has been my choice since 2016, now switched to 9 Peak after found one in the 2nd hand market. Awesome watch. Not a very "smart watch" and I don't wear it 24/7 but even the displaying of emails, texts and phone calls is useful if my phone is in the backpack or pocket - and yes, I already had that feature with SSU. But of course it's personal preference as it is with anything these days which watch suits you... some want structured workouts, Spotify etc. and then you'll probably want to consider Apple/Garmin/Coros ecosystem.

@@liljemark1 Agreed. I see Garmins packed with features but when I've tested Instinct Solar it appears that despite great GPS tracking much of other stuff which looks so nice on paper were just unreliable. Sleep tracking kick off whenever I just lying on sofa and watching movies (apple watch much better here). I saw YT movies complaining for Fenix 6 pace accuracy. Apple watch have better HR sensor etc. etc. and Fenix is not cheap toy, but I guess it have better marketing and more positions in specs. ;) I still would like to see better UI performance and maps in Suunto watches. I was getting double notifications sometimes on old Travers Alpha, I hope Suunto improved this in newer watches as it was annoying (getting ~10 notifications in a row for messages that was already notified in the past). All in all there is no one gold solution! All the best guys!

I bought the Suunto 9 last year and lost the power lead. I was promised a replacement by Suunto and then after 15 communications with them (most of which were not replied to) I had to give up and buy it new. Los of apologies and no action- really poor for a $900 watch. Really poor service has coloured my judgement on Suunto

Have been wearing the Suunto 9 Baro for almost 2 years now, before that had a Garmin Fenix 3. Suunto's operating system and user interface is just obsolete. Not only it is badly designed, but it also fails to utilize the full capabilities of the hardware on the watch. Example of that is the screen, although it has much better resolution even compared to newer Garmin watches, just put the two side by side and you will know what I mean. The watch faces are static and wrongly designed, meaning they fail to be info-dominant, it's like somebody was lazy to design the full thing and stopped somewhere there... While the whole interface, charts, bars, widgets, all lack multicolor execution. These are just to name some, others are lack of gesture controlled illumination, lack of over the air updates, lack of automatic activity start stop. Just go to Garmin, believe me.

So it's 600-700 dollars, but every feature it added either brought it up to the level of other watches, or was still in beta and didn't work well.

Well from a material perspective it's on the level of a Fenix 6 Sapphire Titanium, wich is - after 3 years on 700$/€ and started with 850. But the Lifecycle of the Fenix 6 is near by an end with speculations since beginning of 2020 that Garmin will bring a successor to the market, this may be considered when comparing thoose 2 prices. And Coros with the Vertix, wich was also released 2 years ago, is also by 600-700 - and even without movescout, Suunto has a better Ecosystem than Coros. So I think the price is really ok as a manufacurer price of a completly new product, it will drop a few month after launch... I guess.

Suunto lost me at Movescount removal. It seems Suunto is reluctant to add things that made tha Ambit name relevan.. Each iteration seems farther away from what it usted to be. Things like climbing pro in garmin are the things i would expect Suunto to have, but they are still Trying to catch up... Cmon you couldnt even match polar or koros battery life in full gps... Whatever ill stick to my a3peak till it dies and then probably in some 10 years they'll catch up....

@@Dcrainmaker but if it's not accurate to the time and distance you've actually ran and only a estimatation of I what you should be running based off a made course is it really that useful? @@Minotauro79 But it snaps you to the course, that's the point - including your distance and pace. So if you're running a marathon, it'll correctly snap you to your location on the course, rather than a bad GPS data point running through Manhatten. Don't get me wrong, Suunto is clearly far behind at this point, but this is - by itself - a cool feature for specific purposes.

You are right, unfortunately - I miss features like the map (on my Fenix 6x Pro) - that's really useful . I did like the style of Suunto for long time and I used my Ambit 3 peak with passion. As soon as I heard "peak" in a new model I thought yeah... but, hmmmm. Other features like Solar on Garmin are nice, but not the main point, but maps. And they don't need to be huge like Garmin ones, but lets assume a top map 300-500 km around you - that would be perfect even for a longer hike or bike tour and will not take that much memory.
