A trip down memory lane. Looks like the old Metropole Hotel (bar) is no longer there?.. 21:09 into the vlog. It used to be directly across from the markets. Love this clip, Vinaka for sharing especially for those of us who cannot travel during these Covid times. I could almost smell that fish market through my computer screen !
@ThePaleBlueDot3 жыл бұрын
Wow! You certainly know Suva! I think the Metropole disappeared long ago. There used to be a McDonald's Hotel, very famous in its time, along Victoria Parade ironically opposite McDonald's, the burger place. I was with someone last year and we were trying to situate where McDonald's (hotel) was located. Someone overhearing us stepped in to tell us it was across the road!

Ciao and Bula Vinaka Azeem, come va ! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. The Suva Market is usually a must visit whenever I'm back home for a visit. I particularly look out for the older village ladies to purchase things from and tip them very generously, for which they're always very grateful. It doesn't take long for me to be loaded with garden ripened fruit, veg, maybe seafood and a big bunch of flowers. By the way, are you from the famous Sahu Khan family, being doctors etc. Anyway love your informative vlogs of rediscovering Fiji and general vibe. Molte Grazie and Vinaka Vakalevu 🇫🇯 👍🏽

Bene, grazie! Bula Vinaka to you as well! Yes, I am related to the Sahu Khan clan. They’re all over the place! 😃. I will include many more vlogs of people and places across Fiji, especially the islands, soon. Just waiting for the weather to settle down. I usually live in Matera, Italy. Do you live out there too?

Is it really "octopus orchid"? I thought it's called "tiger orchid". It might resemble the tentacles of an octopus but so do those of related varieties. It's called "tiger orchid" because of its stripes, I should think.

If you like curries, I understand Maya Dhaba and Ashiyana have been recommended by TripAdvisor but I think they're very much overrated. I haven't eaten there but friends I know who know a thing or two about curries don't rate them highly.

Iv just came home from Fiji and did not notice many gays but when they are gay they are very very Gay . And it's good that they are able to express themselves. I had a gay waiter at first landings restaurant and he did a very good job .My wife gave him a very good tip as they only get 4 dollars a hour . His boss asked why I was giving him money like we were doing a drug deal but he was very happy when I said I'm just tipping for great service and I'm just a working person I'm not rich but felt he deserved it.
